Guided tours are the best way to see this remote and friendly island where the cows and sheep seem to outnumber people. Two mountain peaks, known as Father Earth and Mother Earth, make for superb hiking.

We went for a two-day tour on Lake Titicaca and stayed overnight with a family on Amantani. Because of the altitude it was exhausting climbing even a few steps - going down was a lot easier. I particularly enjoyed the garden plots where the islanders grow potatoes, fava beans, quinoa and maize. We were there in the rainy season so... More

There is so much to say about this, I do not know where to start! The scenery is breathtaking! The people are lovely, so kind and hospitable! However it is a very rustic experience, and the people expect an additional gift when you arrive and we were not prepared for this. We arrived on the island around noon and were... More

See the sunset from the top is amazing! We really liked our stay in Amantani specially to meet the families and to learn about their traditions. They are very kind and simple and they share everythin with us! We prefered to arrange our stay directly without buying a ticket from a tour agency (we only payed the boat transportation)...some of... More

From the viewpoint of my sofa at home, i see the stay in the local family of Amantani Island as adventure i m grateful i have experienced. However, when you re there, thats physically uncomfortable. Peak of this Island is at 4135 metres above sea level so prepare for Altitude sickness-no oxygen bombs anywhere. There are no electric plugs,no running water and... More

The 2 days 1 night homestay tour did not live up to expectations unfortunately. We were told we would have an English speaking guide and though she did talk English it seemed like a quick, watered down version of what she was saying firstly in Spanish. We were paired with a local family upon our arrival to Amantani. Staying with... More

I visited Amantani as part of a 2-day trip to the islands of Lake Titicaca and stayed in a homestay, which was a fantastic experience. The island is very unspoilt and has no street lights etc, so bring a torch if you come and stay overnight. Staying in the homestay was far more of an experience than staying in a... More

A lovely island where you can "home stay" for a night. But beware, its a half hour steep walk from the port to the houses and another half hour to your home stay. The walk to the top of the island is equally challenging, as is getting around the island. The tour company DO NOT warn you of this in... More

We booked a homestay on Amantani through All Ways Travel, a local tour company in Puno. We traveled with Hebon, a local from Amantani, through Uros to the island. This was a 4.5 hour boat ride including the visit to the Uros floating islands. We were welcomed on the island with a flower necklaces and taken to the house where... More

Amantani was beuatiful. The people were hospitable and the food was delicious. If you're a vegetarian, you'll be happy to visit this island. The diet is naturally vegetarian, which may be a welcome change if you've been traveling through a lot of Peru. The next part of this review is about a specific company, Lago Tours, that hosts tours of... More
