Honestly, my favorite part of a 2 week trip in Peru was the Hiram Bingham train ride to Machu Picchu. We booked the Sacred Valley train ($190/pp one way) from Urubamba to Aguas Calientes and the Expedition ($60/pp) back based purely on train times. FORTUNATELY...More

This is a poorly run, confusing and frustrating rail service. This is especially clear at the "rail station" at Ollantaytambo which is basically a gate at the end of the road. If you have a choice, use IncaRail, and if not, good luck. Once on...More

This is a comfortable train, affordable and functional. If you are looking for fancy, this is not the one! They serve a little snack and it’s pretty clean.

We rode the train after our Macchu Picchu visit back to Ollantaytambo and it was very nice. They served some drinks and food and also had a mock "fashion show" to illustrate some of the Alpaca wool clothing that was for sale from the local...More

We traveled on board the Vistadome Poroy-Aguas Calientes-Poroy the same day. PeruRail offers convenient schedule to allow a visit to Machu Picchu in the 12:00-5:30 pm session without needing to stay overnight close by. The train is convenient albeit a little tight in space. Service...More

I tried to book round trip tickets from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Caliente online via perurail.com. You'd think this day and age that would be the simplest thing in the world. Well, not with Perurail. The payment always fails. The first time I received an email...More

The views are great, but on the ride up the mountain, if you're on the righthand side of the train, the mountainside does hinder viewing. Also if your seats are rear-facing, you might have tight picture angles, and/or feel... More

Casual is OK. You can dress up if you wish but certainly not shorts, sneakers and singlets. Tie optional
