A must see if in the Sacred Valley. Astounding views and an incredible natural phenomenon. We tasted the source salt water from the stream and ventured through the ponds as part of our tour of the area. This was the highlight of the day!

An attraction and a business entirely run by local families. An outstanding attraction based on natural salted water source and human made pools to collect the salt. A kaleidoscope of colors and shapes

We went on a tour fairly last minute and wanted something easy going. The salt mines are absolutely stunning and less than an hour from Cusco. It was also cheap to get here through a tour company that also visits Moray. There's also no difficult...More

It's a great hike about 5km from the tar road it's up hill but an easy walk. You get to see how the locals live. We were lucky enough to see the local guy building a fancy wall around his property. Having a good time...More

One of my favorite sites in the Sacred Valley. Something different than ruins. You can see people working their salt flats, and can buy salt products to take home. Chocolate with Maras salt is delish! Unique landscape, great photo opportunity.

Absolutely spectacular mine in a canyon full of interesting sights. We hiked from the Sacred Valley near Urubamba and it took us about two hours to get there. The plant life and animal life on the way was interesting, and we saw llamas and mountain...More

We hired a driver from Urumba to take us out to Salinas de Maras as you certainly don't need a guide. Lovely drive out there and the salt pools are amazing to see. We walked amongst them, but probably spent a total of half-an-hour there....More

Our guide Bryan took us to this amazing salt field. Its pretty cool to see up in the mountain. It is sourced by a small countinuos salt water stream that comes out of the mountain and pools into salt boxes. The water with time evaporates...More

A couple miles north of the city of Urubamba is a bridge over the Urubamba river. Cross the river and walk up to the Salt Pans. The trail is well worn and easy to follow.

There is 3 types of salt. One for consomption, the second also for your kitchen but larger and the third for your body and health. Bought the 3 rd catégorie 10 soles for 3 kg.
