I have been to this place on several occasions. Each time that someone goes with me and sees it for the first time, they are amazed. The best place to take pictures is to park on the side of the road, above the salt mine. The mine is situated in a valley, and surrounded by mountains. Everytime I have visited,... More

Awesome location. It's such a unique, yet simple process that is used to dry the salt water and gather the remaining salt.

This should be considered of one the wonders of Peru. From afar it looked like limestone, but as you get closer, you are still not sure what it is, once you finally reach it, you see salt cultivated in a very different manner, Its like they are harvesting salt. An there stream that run through it. There is a small... More

While visiting the Sacred Valley, we hired a taxi from Urubamba to take us to Moray, Maras, the Salinas and later Pisac. You won't need much time to visit the Salinas - 30 minutes will do - but you will come away with stunning photos of the salt pools and the harvesting process.

This was a great part of our trip to Peru. The scenery of salt pools was quite beautiful. We also bought lots of pink salt to share with friends. Confession: we used it all and didn't share. Now it's our favorite finishing salt to use- so you may be tempted to stock up b/c it's expensive on Amazon.

Its a whole mountain of salt lakes. Its really impressive and nothing similar to salt lakes i have seen elsewhere. Its a nice place to visit as a break from all the historical Inka sights found in Cuzco. The way to the saltlakes it really beautiful country side too. The view its exactly as beautiful as shown on the brochure.... More

We went to the salt mine during the wet season which is when the salt is not extracted. Nevertheless you can enjoy the view from above which is spectacular and appreciate the hard work done by the human kind to build it. We are very familiar with other salt place but this is truly unusual and, although it is quite... More

I really loved viewing these salt ponds, they are so unique. It was hard maneuvering on the walk way, it was very slim and there was no real order on where to walk. I simply took some photos then headed back to the van. There are tons of shops to buy drinks and salt from the ponds.

I saw the salt mines from above - very dramatic and worth the view - when I was tired at the end of a travelling day. I need (and should have) got more information to have it make more sense to me

Visited the 'Salt Pans'. Interesting to hear how they work the pans to gather the salt. Amazing set up and so different to any other site we visited. They make great salted chocolate th you can buy. Well worth a visit. May need to take a tou as it is some way out of town.
