BASILICA DE LA VERACRUZ EVEN BETTER

A beautiful church. But do not miss the Basilica de la Vera Cruz next door. An unassuming entrance but the interior is spiritually magnificent

We came here luckily on a city tour of Lima. I had read about the Catacombs underneath the city and I made sure that I was able to book a city tour that included viewing this. The Monastery itself has a lot of history and is great to see, but the Catacombs make it incredible interesting. You dont go into... More

Lovely place to visit when you're in downtown Lima. It's amazingly preserved and very well taken care of. Don't miss the tour to the bell tower, you'll have to climb a ton of stairs, but the view and the place itself are worth it.

The catacombs are located beneath the church and as someone who suffers from claustrophobia, I was apprehensive to do this tour. It was fine, the tunnels are not too narrow and they quickly open up into bigger spaces. There is a grate which opens up into the Cathedral above. Whilst I was touring the catacombs, a mass started and it... More

We had a quick walk through this place. You only get guided tours, offered in Spanish or English. The price is 10sol p.p. which is absolutely okay. Your guide will tell you all about the place so you can pick up some knowledge about the local history as well

Just a very short walk north of the old historical district, a very beautiful Spanish style church. Has very old paintings that have been hanging for many years. Church also has an old library as well. A nice stop to take pictures.

I love Spanish tiles and the courtyard of this monastery is full of beautiful spanish tiles all over the walls. It also has old painting hanging outside above the tiles. Our guide said Lima, which gets no rain, is a perfect spot to preserve painting and books. The library is also interesting.

Truly a beautiful church and convent with historic significance. We were extremely fortunate to tour on the eve of Santa Maria de Lima day. Flower petal murals adorned the streets, garlands and bouquets on the icons, and a special service for the military and police participants in the4 parades all made for an incredible experience

The Monastery of Santo Domingo is a beautiful and peaceful site! It's location, close to the historic center of Lima makes it very accessible.
