There are lots of Policia. Our Hotel, the Casa Andina Premium, was in Mira Flores. You can walk to the edge of the world and gaze upon the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Kennedy Park has some great restaurants and shops. Uber works great throughout. If you're staying in Lima, you stay in Mira Flores, otherwise you are taking a big risk.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 26, 2024
- RuthyGlasgow833 contributionsLoved this areaFirst time in Lima, I did not think much of the drive from the airport as it looked just like another weary busy city?? Our hotel was in the Miraflores district which is high on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean which at the time of year we went in May, it nearly always was misty and dull with the mist rolling in from the sea so never really got a great view of the ocean. We were near to Kennedy Park which was very vibrant and full of cats. They locals love to look after them and have little bowls of food etc and cardboard boxes for their homes! There is a small amphitheatre and some nights there is dancing to loud music which was fun. Beautiful church there to visit. Lots of restaurants and shops and it was great to go there for the few nights we were based there. Came back again to Lima before flying to Arequipa but stayed in a boutique hotel in the Barranco bohemian type area which was very different from Miraflores but still good. In Lima just off the Kennedy Park across from the ice cream parlour I had a great pisco sour at the very small bar La Tasca Bar and took advantage of their Happy Hour. On our last night in Peru after travelling around for over 3 weeks, we came back to Lima and again went to the park and my last stop at this bar for my last Pisco Sour! Fabulous.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 4, 2024

Their focus on personalized attention and comfort makes the trip pleasant and carefree. The City Tour in Lima allowed me to get to know in depth the rich history of the city. - Kristen Baena1 contributionDoing the City tour in Lima is well worth itMy City Tour in Lima with 'Terra Quecha Peru' was a deep dive into the history and culture of the Peruvian capital. We began by exploring Miraflores, where the Parque del Amor greeted us with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The guide then took us to the Historic Center, where the Plaza Mayor and the Lima Cathedral transported us back to colonial times. The visit to the Larco Museum was a revelation, with its amazing collection of pre-Columbian art. Barranco, with its urban art and bohemian cafes, was the perfect ending to this culturally enriching dayVisited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten August 5, 2024
- MCDLondon, United Kingdom218 contributionsSafe areaA nice area to stay if you are in Lima. You can walk the area OK. Plenty of restaurants. If you meet for a Lima walking tour in Miraflores they will take you on the 'Metro' to the center. Otherwise I would recommend Uber. Plenty and reliable. We stayed one night on arrival and one night on departure. I wouldn't do longer unless you are using Lima as a base for tours.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 17, 2024

Arrived in Miraflores at the moment the State of Emergency was declared due to Corona. As a result most of the time I was locked inside a small hostel one block away from Larcomar (main avenue) and unable to explore a lot of the area. What struck me most was there is plenty of space. Unlike other urban areas in Peru there are parks and tree lined boulevards. The setting on top of the cliffs bordering the ocean is very pleasant as well. The wealthy part of Peru has created a comfortable enclave here amidst a vast conglommerate of neighborhoods where mainly poor people live. Comfort also means there are modern supermarkets and attractive restaurants though the latter were mostly closed because of Corona.
Most of the 100,000 plus inhabitants of Miraflores are wealthy people. Their servants live in other parts of the city of Lima (population 11 million). Service providers in Miraflores are generally very nice people. Many of the wealthy citizens are more indifferent towards tourists and travellers. A small number of them seemed to blame us for bringing corona to Peru, even though most of the travellers spent months in Latin America prior to the lockdown. Some locals took pictures of us and posted them online. Neighbors complained after observing more than three people on the rooftop of the hostel or on a balcony. However, most people behaved normal and not hostile towards us.

Miraflores is, along with Barranco, the best of Lima's districts, with excellent restaurants and pleasant areas to stroll. But, as elsewhere in Lima, car drivers are super-aggressive, public transportation is terrible, and the air quality is awful. If you're even mildly asthmatic like me, you'll soon learn why the U.N.'s World Health Organization has consistently rated Lima as the city with the worst air pollution of ANY city in North OR South America. I had to cut my vacation short after only two days in that city. Interesting museums, but is it worth the hazard to your health? A quick pass-through on the way to Machu Picchu or elsewhere..

We were on vacation from Canada and really loved our stay in Miraflores district of Lima. We heard of all kinds of warnings about security in and around the city. However in Miraflores we felt absolutely safe. It's a good place to stay if you are visiting Lima.

Miraflores, Peru was a great place to visit. It's gay friendly and super trendy. There's amazing restaurants & cafes all over the place. You will even see a few pubs. My wife and I also ate at a great restaurant with an open kitchen called Fuego. People here are super friendly. You are close to the local park which has beautiful artwork for sale and at night its a place were people go to play dominos and see performers. The mall is by the mall so if you need to buy anything I suggest you go there. It's a super cool place to visit.

I live in Los Angeles and love the beach, so I figured Miraflores would be my favorite area of Lima and I was right. It's pretty, but still very commercial. My favorite area was the park with the giant statue of the lovers. Nice views. And our guide said we were lucky to have a nice sunny day in early September, it was a beautiful day.
As far as beach areas in general go though, it felt pretty middle of the road. To compare it to California beach areas, it's definitely got a more commercial Santa Monica skyscraper and mall vibe rather than a more rustic and natural Malibu vibe. So, as a self professed beach snob, I would rate it about 7 out of 10. In my opinion though it's leaps and bounds prettier than the bulk of Lima, which I didn't really care for.
One odd thing to note: you can't actually get down to the beach in Miraflores, you're on cliffs above it. You have to walk along the cliff edge to another district to get down to the beach, which I did, walking on a small path right beside a major freeway. Took 15-20 minutes. Kinda weird. But a pretty area and definitely worth a visit! Be sure to check out the park with the giant lovers statue.

Does anyone have advice on which part of Miraflores is best to live in? I’ll be moving there in June and am wondering if it’s better to be near John F. Kennedy Park, which seems very bustling, or if it’s better to be out a bit. I like having restaurants, cafes, gyms etc. in walking distance, but I also like the idea of being near the water and a green area. My budget is $1100.

The area around Parque Kennedy is indeed "bustling" (if that is what you're looking for), but it's a little too commercial and traffic-bound for my tastes. I agree that Miraflores is the most inviting of residential areas, but I would look a little further south in the triangle that forms the core of Miraflores. The area below San Martin to the ocean and between Malecon Balta (on the west) and Avenida La Paz (on the east) is especially nice. Don't know the cost, but it sure looks expensive. Good luck!
