Paracas and Huacachina from Lima with Ballestas Islands and Sand Boarding

730 reviews
The coastal and desert regions outside Lima offer a world of outdoor adventure far from the city, but complex bus systems—and, for some visitors, a language barrier—make exploring a challenge. On this full-day tour, travel in comfort from your Lima hotel and hit Paracas and Huacachina with ease. Spot native marine life in the Paracas National Reserve and try sandboarding on South America’s largest dunes.

At the very heart of Lima's "Barranco" bohemian district and not far from neighboring "Museo Pedro de Osma", you wil find "MATE - Museo Mario Testino". It is housed, since 2012, at a 19th century beautifully restored "Republican" style villa and aims to bring Peruvian art and culture to worldwide attention. At the same time, it offers Peruvians an opportunity to enjoy the best of international contemporary art and photography through its temporary exhibitions. Just in the case you don't know yet, Mr. Mario Testino is an acclaimed Peruvian fashion and portrait photographer, and an important contributor of international magazines such as Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ and many others. At "MATE's" permanent collection, you will be able to check on some of his works: "Alta Moda", "Princess Diana of Wales", "Muses", as well as portraits, campaigns and editorial shoots. Do not miss the set of photos portraying men and women wearing beautiful typical festive attires. Visit "MATE", its shop - "Bodega MATE" and even, through a combined ticket, other museums located in the "Barranco District" ("Museo Pedro de Osma" and "Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima"). Enjoy!

The beautifully restored 19th mansion is located in the upmarktet and cultural driven Barranco quarter. The museum has a nice garden with a little coffee shop. I enjoyed their coffee there after having seen the exhibition. There is the permanent collection of superb Mario Testino photographs as well as ever changing exhibitions with different themes. Most interesting for me were the lesser known photos of members of different peruvian ethnics tribes in their splendid dresses for different occasions. And of course there is a section dedicated only to his famous photos of Lady Di.

MATE is a must-see if you are into photography and/or fashion. The buildings, restored by Mario Testino to become a museum for his and related works, are a beautiful and peaceful location to display Princess Di dresses, new and traditional fashion, and, of course, photography. The store carries exclusive and high-quality handcrafted articles as well as souvenirs.

This museum takes about an hour to go through and is very well worth your time. The photography is amazing. There were many highlights to be seen, including various pictures of familiar figures but also Princess Diana.
