Perhaps this was the most surprising building and design among the 3 animals they adored. The two separate wings merges in the center of a rock symbolizing a flying condor, but the head was not joining the supposedly neck, but was sculpted on the floor and totally separated. However, if you get a look from an upper level, you will see how perfectly was developed.

This was the highlight of MaPi for me, other than the breathtaking views and the amazing history of the place. Don't miss this place to see how the Inkas represented the condor.

The Temple of the Condor is one of the more interesting spots in Machu Picchu. You need to walk through most of the ruins until you reach it. You can somewhat see a Condor as two rocks sticking out form the wings.

This “Temple” is a mixture of natural formations and Inca built enclosures. The Condor has a sacred meaning in the Inca mythology – the other two being a Snake and a Puma.
Our tour guide pointed the Condor out to us. From close-up, it was hard to figure out the shape of a bird – other than in general terms. From a distance, the shape is a lot better to see. But you still need to stretch your imagination to see what they were seeing.
The Base is a flat stone, which led people to think that sacrifices were conducted here. But since there is no written language, people just passed on their thoughts from one generation to another.
This is an important spot, so visitors will not miss viewing it. Everybody makes a stop here.

Good luck if you can see the shape of the Condor here, as with many of these sights, a lot is up to interpretation of the viewer and their beliefs. Condors here, pumas there....

See the stone of condor. It's unique for them to design the 3D view of condor using he stone. Not easy to capture the full perspective on camera but interesting!

Before you arrive to MP, get the excellent tour book from Amazon called MP a self-guided tour by Ruth Wright. It’s old but the historical information is still accurate. Read it before you go to MP. The book has fascinating pictures & tells the story of the temple.
Look for the small brown sign leading into it as it’s easy to miss.
It’s definitely a must do while at MP.

This is a must visit site but be warned the bus trip is a little hairy because you go up high mountains with deep deep valleys below and there isn't much room for driver error. But it is worth the trip. We visited early in the morning and the hawkers and souvenir sellers were already set up. But the condors were perched in the valley and as if on queue put on an amazing flying show for the crowds that gathered at the reserve.
If you are on a day trip and tme permits take a trek along the many steep walking tracks. Be sure to take plenty of water and good walking shoes.
