Our party of 4 (3 middle-aged siblings and 1 teenager) hiked to the ruins from the start of the trail with a guide. I am not sure how we would have found it otherwise. It was a beautiful hike, full of local color (farms, animals,...More

I wanted to hike, yet due to time constraint, I took a taxi. Scenery in the taxi was magnificent, and I can only imagine how much better it would have been if I hiked. I paid 10 Soles entrance fee. One of the postings say...More

Not far from Ollantaytambo and off the beaten track, this was a terrific, well maintained ruin high on a hill overlooking a beautiful valley. High mountain vista's surrounded the ruin. We had the location to ourselves for the entire time we were there, able to...More

My husband and I had a lovely hike from Ollantaytambo to the Pumamarca ruins. The scenery was beautiful with granite cliffs, agricultural terracing, and farms along the way. The directions we found online were pretty good, but note the house at the turnoff is currently...More

We did a very scary horseback ride to these ruins. In fact my horse went down in a stream as we were crossing over one tiny stone slab. The horseback ride up from Ollantaytambo is not for the faint of heart for sure. FYI everyone...More

Hiked from Ollantaytambo to Pumamarka. A beautiful hike and a beautiful site. This site was built to resemble a puma's head. A part of the wall was built in a zigzag way to resemble the teeth. Pretty amazing as I have never seen something like...More

We hiked 6 miles up hill to visit, a challenging hike but well worth it, great views, walking through terraced fields gives good persepective on farming. Thr ruins temsleves are ok, interesting enough to make the hile worth it.

We went with our four children aged 14, 12, 8 and 6. We were driven to just beneath the ruins and we walked down to Ollantaytambo using the original Inca trail. The Pumamarca ruins are lovely and hardly visited so you may have the place...More

Sorry have. But you should be able to. Make sure to inquire (at the hotel?) how much it should cost and don't go unless the driver agrees to that amount. That's quite a distance.

That's fine. It should be a nice walk. But do leave some time and energy to go up the hills and terraces, which is a steep climb. From up there, there are also trails to hike around.

i think it is a bit late to start, given that the days are shorter. You will miss the best time of day on the trail. Best to over night then walk up from town centre.
