We got lost on the hike to Pumamarca but everyone we met on the way was very helpful. My spanish is limited but that didn't pose a problem. When we got to the ruins, it was desolate. No one there. Such a beautiful place to have no visitors. The hike was harder than others we took. But, we didn't take... More

Chinchero is close to Cuzco – about 1 hour. I would recommend starting with this site and work your way up to Ollantaytambo and then Machu Picchu. Not much hike or walk here – so it is a pretty easy site to see. There is a church and some minor shopping. Take cash as they do not accept cards. There... More

You must experience this hike! We have a 4 year old so we opted to take a taxi uphill from the plaza- otherwise this experience would have been free. Don't pay any more than 30 soles for the taxi. We asked to be dropped off so that we still had some uphill hiking left, about 30 minutes. The ruins are... More

My wife and I had heard about these ruins and trekked along the road from Ollytatambo after 4 hours we found an amazing site we had to ourselves. We discovered a burial site which had been exposed by local farmers. We also supported a local lady by buying handmade dolls. A local girl about 16 yo guided us home through... More

While Pumamarca is not nearly as preserved or intricate as other ruins in the area the serenity of the area makes it worth it. We had this area to ourselves on the day that we went. We took a taxi up to the base and hiked 20 minutes up to the ruins. We spent around an hour just relaxing at... More

Learning all about the way the Incas engineered the stones to fit together is amazing in and of itself... But all the waterways and terraces they built were equally amazing. Highly recommend this attraction.

Go to as many ruins as you can while in Peru. They are all different and their history is fascinating. Read about them before you go and get a good guide if you can to explain the features you might miss at each site.

At breakfast staying at Casa de Wow!! The host was speaking to another guest about this hike. I am traveling solo and overheard and said I would join if you wanted a hiking partner. Ended up being a great day! New friend, great hike, amazing views!
