I visited the garden on a beautiful sunny day in October. I liked the relaxed atmosphere, with many local people enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon with family or friends, picknicking or just relaxing in the shade of the trees. The garden is a bit overgrown and not perfectly maintained, but that just the way I liked it.

The park is a bit old style. One gets the impression that the layout is a bit by accident. Still it is ancient stroll on a warm day.

Nice gardens a bit out of city Center. Nice break from the city. You can hear lots of birds and walk around the aerobic circle. Not big but feels nice to roam around.

This is one of Montevideo´s wonderfully treed parks. Signs on many trees are explanatory, and there are some beautiful fountains with lily pads and sculptures. The cool breeze was most welcome. Not too big to walk all the way around.

The jardim botanico might be a bit less interesting than the private botanical garden that is nearer to Monte, but in the en this is the real botanical garden. It is less fancy and more to the ground and you might miss some of the fancy stuff but then again it is great to see the collection of plants and... More

Nice place to go with kids, take pictures and have a mate. Nothing special there. Restrooms are awfully ugly but clean. Almost impossible to get a taxi there. Easy to go by bus.

Spent the whole day here, picknicking and chilling with a blunt or two. There are some areas that are secluded and nice, and the locals also use this "botanical" garden for relaxation and fun times. The garden is more exotic than the average garden, but as a botanical garden for nature freaks; it's not very awesome. Still, considering it's easily... More

Overgrown. Poor signage. Bathroom out of order. Weeds. Yep, there are some interesting trees. It is much more like a poorly maintained park than any kind of real botanical garden.

Unkept gardens, weeds and grass everywhere, dying herb and edible garden filled with weeds. So, so very sad! No flowers, nothing exotic... basically a poor maintained park! BTW, museum in the premises is closed for maintenance and the green house is covered with tarp and falling apart... The good thing: it's free, otherwise I would had been very mad about... More

The Jardin Botanico is approximately 30 minutes bus ride from the centre of Montevideo. It is primarily a collection of trees and shrubs found in Uraguay, with few flowers. We did observe several parakeets flying about. The gardens are free to enter. They are relatively new, and will take some time to develop fully.
