About
The Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide 1992 – 1995 was founded in July 2016 as an initiative to sustain the memory of all the victims of the war that lasted from 1992- 1995. The founders of the museum themselves are victims who survived the war. Together with young people they have made the museum a reality and keep it working. The museum exhibit contains a variety of photos and personal items that hold the stories of the war victims. The museum staff has given their best to transfer those stories into written pieces that proudly stand next to every item. In order to make the visit more authentic and realistic, the museum presents simulations of a mass grave and solitary confinement. Keeping the memory alive is an important factor in avoiding genocides and massacres in the future. History is something we must remember!

- Excursion8201661 contributionRecommended when in Sarajevo, Bosnia HerzegovinaThe museum is well maintained and appeals to the imagination with personal and general stories from different perspectives. The staff is friendly, helpful and speaks several languages. I would like to thank 'Amela' specifically for her hospitality, thanks!thank you so much for your kind review, we are proud to have curators such as ours.Written October 10, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten October 9, 2023
- Emina D1 contributionMust visit! This museum is full of many important historical artefacts regarding bosnian history in its formative period in the early nineties. Museum staff offers a plethora of very interesting information regarding war and aggression that lasted from 1992-1995. In my opinion this museum is a must visit for anyone who lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina and wants to know more from a objective perspective, even though it is very emotional and heartbreaking to see how difficult it has been for people who have been affected by this conflict! Museum staff is very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly, especially Amela who has been a great to talk to and from whom I got even more interesting information about history of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Surely, I will be back!Thank you for your comment our mission is successful because of you.Written October 24, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten October 11, 2023
- TootingMikeLondon, United Kingdom386 contributionsVery powerful. Deeply educationalMuseum is done well. Many artefacts but importantly also lots of text to read explaining the background, the causes of the tension etc. Manages to present the horror without creating a sense of ongoing hatred against the perpetratorsThank you for your review.Written October 24, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 15, 2023
- Jennifer E63 contributionsHard, but worth itIncredibly heavy museum, but we’ll worth it. I spent 90 mins here, and probably only read half of what was there. Harrowing stories of survival. Several rooms to wind through. It’s a small budget museum but well doneThank you for your review, museum is private one, so everything we achieved was with our own funds.Written October 25, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten October 25, 2023
- Bess H2 contributionsInteresting museumThis museum was a sobering look into the realities of the Bosnian war. There were plenty of artefacts, both personal and military with personal accounts from survivors. It was a very sobering but important visit to learn about the war and the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 4, 2023
- annafcsizmadia1 contributionIt's shocking and it's a must seeThe exhibition is shocking even if you've heard about this before. Hard to imagine that it happened and this museum is definitely a "must see" not just because of the history itself, but because everyone need to see and know about this and maybe it couldn't happen again in our and our chidren's future in any country of the world. Thank you for reminding the future.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 6, 2023

- Esther C2 contributionsThird Visit in Three YearsThis is the third time that I have visited this museum over the last three years, and I learn something new everytime. I highly recommend anyone who is travelling to Sarajevo for holiday, business, or anything in between to visit this museum and gain a better understanding of everything that happened and how the every-day civilians were affected. A truly horrific part of history but one that cannot be forgotten, and one which the museum shows in a sensitive but relevant way.thank you for your comment.Written November 27, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 22, 2023

- Şamil G1 contributionMagnificent historyWe traveled with 3 friends. The price is 12km for students and 15km for adults. It does justice to its price. It is a big and full place inside. It tells about the period between 1992-95. Supported with pictures and videos. There are plenty of figures. You definitely feel the history. I definitely recommend you to go.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten December 26, 2023

Great Museum and so filled with personal things of war victims. People in my country don't learn in school about this and it is very important to come and see. I am from Euskal Herria (Basque) and I am fully aware how much is important to know the real true. In order of my origin I was surprised and touched the guide in the Museum I met and remember for my life Allen is so familiar about my people. Even things which are hidden from public. Our special language, roots, freedom organizations, music, futbola. That's made me a special warm feelings. Honestly recommend to people which travel Balkan and Sarajevo. I'll surely back again.

In school you will learn facts, but here you will (indirectly) learn of horrors of war and what was it for those who experienced it.
The museum is not large, but you can spend all the afternoon there if you choose to read every writing and watch the films. It is very touching, makes you appreciate life and ordinary things you have.

Affordable tickets (~7.50 euros).
Space rich in information, testimonies from people who survived the war, images and items from the time. If you want to understand the history of the war, this is a great choice. Come prepared, as it is dense, with strong images and testimonials.

It was sad, sad, sad. I probably shouldn't have gone to this museum because what I saw there affected me deeply. It was really sad to see all the things which were somehow related to the war in the former Yugoslavia. Behind each of the objects on display was a human story and its sad end.
I was most impressed by the room with thousands and thousands of messages from visitors. I also wrote one.
Even though I felt cramped and sad when I left this museum, it was definitely worth the visit. The entrance fee was 12 km (approx. €6).

The service of the museum was very helpful, kind and had all the anwsers, which you will have trust me. You need to prepare youself for what you're about to see, but it is worth it, and it should be seen, rememberd and not forgotten. You can see the films, inteviews, and personal belongings, you can also buy books and movies regarding the entire war. It is painful to see, read and listen about but again I will say it is necessary to see all of it. The museum itself is well composed and fulfilled. You won't regret it.

This was such an emotional experience. I know some of what went on in the war but to see this museum of atrocities which happened during my adult lifetime was very disturbing.
This should never have happened and keeping the memory of it alive and spreading the message is really the only way we can hope to avoid a repeat.
Please go. leave yourself time to read and watch. Many thanks to the everyone involved in creating this museum.

Very interesting museum about one of the darkest periods of Europe.
The museum is runned by volunteers.
I got stuck in the movie-room, a 90 min film about the daily life 1992-95
I spent +2 hours in the museum...

Amazing experience, if you are in Sarajevo it’s a must. We had the opportunity to learn more about the 1992-1995 war and it is very heart breaking. Also, the staff is amazing and very helpful. When we were leaving the museum it started a heavy rain and we didn’t have umbrellas, so the guy from the reception (we don’t know his name unfortunately) found us a umbrella so we could go home safe and dry. Everything was very nice and completely worth it.

“History is to remember," was stated in the museum's entrance. Many of us overlook Bosnian stories because there was no social media in 1992-1995. This museum collects a lot of tragic and heartbreaking stories and stories of people who are still searching for missing family. This museum is managed by war victims and has a very friendly staff. A must-visit museum !
