Gazi-Husrev Beg's Bezistan in Central Sarajevo is great example of a 15th Century covered market with an attractive exterior and bustling arcade atmosphere once inside. Although everything on sale is a far cry from what would have been sold in 15th Century it is a great place to spend some time exploring.

Old town bazar
Best tourist attraction and shopping site
In Sarajevo
Near Gazi Jamaa ( mosque )Masjed)
Full of antique and old heritage goods
But the Baggers were spoiling the place
There should be some thing to do about it

This is an old bazaar with great architecture. You can take beautiful photos there.
There are many little shops selling souvenirs. And they are cheaper then any other place in the city.

What we noticed most when we entered was the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke. We were looking forward to partaking in some browsing and shopping in the inside bazaar. The building was built in the 1550's and has predominantly been used for trade in all that time. I tried to bargain at one or two stores but got nothing but disdain from the stall workers so we didn't purchase anything from here. The shops in this arcade are pretty much similar to those in the market area anyway.
As far as the building goes, it has lovely architecture and is nice in its own right but I didn't like the place as a market.

Walked in and very quickly walked out, just looked like a modern market selling fake, cheap goods on a large scale. A waste of a couple of minutes. A great venue which would could feature and promote the work of local artisans...but sadly no.

As soon as you walk in the cigarette smoke hits you in the face. Most shopkeepers were sat down smoking. It was all the same items, but in different shops and one or two places were selling the fake chinese handbags and wallets too. Outside the building is beautiful, i'd give the inside a miss.

This Bezistan is pretty much like a former sample of Bursa or Istanbul covered bazaars. You can find copper works as well as clothing as its name represents.

Yes shopping centers existed in 15th century already, this building was constructed exactly for this purpose and is serving it up until today. Nowadays shops in there are offering usual turistware, but nevertheless it is worth paying short visit.

I visited the Gazi Husrev-beys Bezistan, or the Gazi Husrev-begov Bezistan, on Sunday, 11th August, 2014. As the interior is very similar to the Grand Bazaar’s interior in Istanbul, the building is symbolic in the way that it is often referred to as 'a piece of Istanbul in the heart of Sarajevo.'

The building was built after Gazi Husrev-bey's death between 1537 and 1557. It was a focal point of silk, leather and cotton trade in Sarajevo. Due to the fact that the building is in-ground built, it was subject to many floods over the years.

Unlike the other streets and alleyways of the Baščaršija quarter, this building is not dedicated to a specific craft or trade. The stores inside sell various items, from leather bags, sunglasses and fridge magnets, to official FK Sarajevo (Football Club Sarajevo) merchandise and copies of the Qur'an.

I was more impressed with the architecture and history of this building, than the shopping inside, as the Gazi Husrev-bey's Bezistan has long lost its original purpose. However, do visit!
