One of the first public buildings built in Sofia after the liberation. Until the middle of 2020, the Parliament of the Republic of Bulgaria was located here.

We happened to visit on a day that 8000 people joined forces and marched past the ministerial buildings-very lively and noisy, but peaceful protest as there were lots of police keeping close control of the situation.

The Bulgarian Parliament resides in a lovely building in the center of town.
There's a beautiful monument to the Tsar Liberator in front of the building,
There were no tours available in the Parliament.

The building designed by an Austrian-trained Serbian architect with Bulgarian roots has been the seat of the Bulgarian parliament since the mid 1880s.

Viewed from across the boulevard its profile is impressive. With pleasing ornamentation, embellishments comprise an array of urns atop, plus an emblem of the nation.
Constructed over a period of forty years beginning in the mid 1880s, it's a fitting edifice for the National Assembly.

Can not be visited. You can only see it from outside. Don't go too close either otherwise the guards will be really angry.

Outside the Presidency of Sofia I heard the natural sound of those goose-steps in the hourly changing of the guard ceremony. The guards normally change every hour on the hour.
If however you drop by the first Wednesday of the month exactly at 12:00 noon you can see the official changing of the guards complete with music, shouting and weapon brandishing.
Their uniforms range from dark red with plumed hats and sabers to more subdued cream-colored garb.
The official chambers of the president overlook the archaeological museum.
The building:
The building does not stand out like in other European Presidencies we come across in other countries. You can be walking by for instance and if you are ignorant, you can walk pass it without noticing it.

When walking around the government center in Sofia, the architecture reminds one of the sense of power that the communists wanted to display over the people. Very imposing and Stalinistic.

This is not typical parliament building you can see in other European countries. It is sort of square and flat building, with two guards on front. One can even pass by without noticing this building.
