This statue of Stephen the great is located in the Stephen Cel Mare park. The great man behind this statue plays a great part in the history of Moldova, where he was prince of Moldova and resisted the ottoman empire ages ago. There is also another of his statue in a park in Romania.

It is a prominent monument in the Central Chișinău, Moldova. It was erected near the main entrance of the Stephen the Great Park in Central Chișinău. Few minutes stop for photos only.

Classic Chisinau attraction in the city center near most lodging and easily walkable. Clean park setting. Good photo app especially if you have a blue sky day.

This shapeless black scarecrow, designed to scare away crows at the entrance to the city park, was actually conceived as a monument to Stefan the Great, a ruler of Moldavia in XV century, who was a loyal ally of Grand Prince Ivan III of Moscow and who twice burned to the ground Bucharest, the future capital of Romania. He was a really worthy historical figure, in contrast to the monument.

The monument was made in 1927 during the Romanian occupation of Bessarabia. In 1940, during the flight of Romanians from Moldavia, the monument was taken to Romania, and the pedestal was blown up; after the next invasion of the Romanian troops, the monument was again transported to Kishinev in 1942 and during the next stampede of Romanians in 1944, they tried to take it to Romania again. As a result, it was accidentally discovered in a construction garbage dump and, by the decision of the communist authorities, returned to Kishinev and restored. It would be better not to return it.

One of the coolest monuments of Chisinau and must do photo. I visited in April so there were red tulips in front of the statue. Stefan is very important for them, they told me he won many battles for Moldova.

Dedicated to Stephen III of Moldova, this imposing bronze statue stands before the entrance to the Great Park in central Chișinău. It’s a tall, interesting monument and one of many you can find in Chișinău’s city centre. Recommended!

I might be biased, since this guy has the same name than I, so take this with a grain of salt. The statue itself is nothing special, but the area around it is nice. On one hand you have the main square with the arch (nice), the main church (not that spectacular, if you have seen large orthodox churches), and the Government House (russian architecture). On the other hand you have the really nice park behind the statue. It is here where the main street, named after the statue, starts and where the big festivals are. So coming here is a logical consequence if you want to experience Chisinau. And thats what you should do. Wander around, expect nothing, and embrace the fairly tourist free flair of this nice and green town. Sure, it isn't polished, but which former soviet part is? But if you give it some time you will get the nice vibes and the friendly people of the capital of Moldova.

He was an important King who brought peace to this region of the crossroads. Kings of the crossroads have to defend their territory more than ones who have sheltered regions, like islands or continents.

The Stephen the Great statue stands at the entrance to a lovely park in the center of Chișinău, a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon reading a book and people watching in Moldova.
