The Palace is extraordinary! The rooms and exquisite and very elegant. But don’t go in August. It is one of the hottest months and for some reason Romanians are not very partial to air conditioning. This place had portable air conditioners (understandable as the buildings were built prior to the invention of A/C), but we visited on a 36 deg C day and the portable A/C was off. The guide (who only spoke Romanian unfortunately, kept making jokes about the foreign turists interest for the place. Not Cool!!! She even annoyed some Romanians in our group. By all means go see this place if you have a chance, but avoid August…

We had a great tour (about 1 hour) and I totally recommend you to visit this location. Very nice rooms and the guide explained nice and answered all our questions. Just make sure to book the visit 24 hours before, otherwise they might not have available tickets.

The tour was really interesting and the building is fabulous. Roxy was my tour guide, her English was great! Roxy gave a detailed account of the Palace’s history providing additional information in every room and answering any questions asked. I would recommend the tour to anyone, I was there for around an hour. They have procedures in place for COVID which are explained fully both when you book and again once you arrive. It costs 60 lei.

Amazing palace to visit! The rooms are in different styles, extremely well preserved. Tour takes about 1h and a half and the tour guide we had, Adrian, was absolutely great in telling the history of the place in an entertaining way. So many great info that l would definitely go back and visit it to refresh my memory.
If you love palaces and history you need to make time for this place!

Toured the palace with a group in December. I found the tour guide to be quite knowledeable and explained a lot about the history and architecture/designs of the rooms. They are styled after different periods and places in Europe and it is interesting to see how the royals lived.

The reservation system is complicated (reservation on a site plus phone call to make an appointment plus scanning at the entrance). The entrance is not well located and public transport is quite far away. Once these problems have been resolved, the guided tour is obligatory in Romanian or English. It's well done and interesting. There weren't many people and we were able to have an almost private visit. A good experience.

Your eyes will get wide at the elegance and furnishings of this palace. The tour of course is compulsory, no wandering on your own. There is so much priceless rugs, furniture, artwork it is mind-boggling. The stories about each of the rooms was nicely explained by the guide. My tour was a large group but everyone was corralled nicely. You are watched very closely by guards. Like so many of the beautiful buildings in Bucharest, I took lots of pictures.

Excellent tour of a beautiful building with eclectic styles in different rooms. Our guide at 10am on Sunday was excellent. Definitely worth a visit even though it’s not near the Old Town it’s just an inexpensive UBER ride away. The entrance is not obvious since it’s halfway down the street behind a wall. Here are the GPS coordinates: (44.4352366, 26.0634243)

Cotroceni Monastery was build by Serban Cantacuzino in 1679 and in 1888, french architect Paul Gottereau created the Royal Palace for King Carol I.

Since 1991, Cotroceni Palace is the residence of the Romanian President

The Palace is beautiful, a wonderful place to view the vestiges of important Romanian history. Tours are available in English and other languages. But be warned: when you enter, you must hand over to the staff a photo ID (driver's license or passport) which they keep while you are on tour. I have no problem with this, as it is is after all the Presidential residence and a military complex (which also means you are limited to where you can take photos). What I do mind is that the so-called security guards do not guard your ID. After the tour you'll find your ID on an unguarded table laid out with all the other IDs they collected from foreigners and Romanians alike. They do not check to make sure visitors are taking their own IDs and anyone could come along and help themselves to your ID. The "guards" were extremely nasty when I pointed this out. The ticket staff are not exactly pleasant either. Of course, as in all of Romania, these cushy non-demanding jobs are not filled by qualified staff but with relatives and friends of the nomenklatura, so keep in mind that they really don't give a rat's patoot about visitors. The gift shop is quite overpriced; anything you might consider buying there can be found in other city museums, bookstores, or artisan shops. Worth visiting once perhaps, but the Botanical Gardens across the street are much more enjoyable.
