Although the city guide leaflet indicates 10.00 as opening time, at the gates we were told 11.00. The Museum is housed in a palace of the former kings so it has beautiful architecture inside and out.We headed straight for the international collection which is not bad but also nothing to go wild about There are some interesting Breughels( after The... Not too much people know what a great collection this museum has. Not only Roumanian art from 18-21 centuries, but a lot of European great paintings. Go and spend a lot of time.

The National Museum of Art has a beautiful collection of artwork, ranging from paintings to sculptures to icons. And, even the students at the local art school have their works featured in the museum, which is a great way to encourage and cultivate artistic talent in Bucharest.

The museum was the former royal palace until 1945. It was damaged during the Romanian Revolution that led to the downfall of Ceausescu. In 2000, part of the museum reopened to the public, housing the modern Romanian collection and the international collection; the comprehensive medieval art collection, which now features works salvaged from monasteries destroyed during the Ceaușescu era, Vacaresti the most impressive.... Having grown up in NYC and a frequent visitor the the MOMA, sometimes I have a hard time giving a fair review to other art museums I visit (I mean, what really comes close to the MOMA, right?). That said, I really enjoyed my time at this museum. There are two wings to this museum, Romanian art & European art... More

I visited only the European wing and found it amazing. A number of excellent paintings are on exhibition in an elegant and luxurious building. The only complaint is that a coffee shop is not available inside.

Mostly religious based items, the museum is beautiful and quiet. Many visit this old historic building that has been reconstructed several times due to war and fire. The exhibits are well maintained but the explanations are often in too small font size. I think it is a really good value at 10 lei but the camera fee at 25 lei... More

I was really pleasantly surprised with the variety and quality of art in the museum, and it's extensive but manageable. You can see everything in about 2 hours.

The museum has two wings, one with European works and the other with Romanian works. Both have great works by famous names, such as Rubens, Klimt, Rembrandt. The Romanian Art wing has permanent exhibitions of the most famous Romanian painters: Grigorescu, Tonitza, Luchian, Aman. My personal favourite is Grigorescu, his portraits are incredible, they are filled with Romanian spirit. It... More
