This building is another beautiful architecture in Bucharest. Just like the Coltea Hospital, I couldn't believe this one is a library. Its design from ages ago was brilliant and show Romanainas has classy taste in building design. This library was almost destroyed in 1989 and many of the books burnt. However, through care and renovations its here as a legacy of the Romanian people ..tested and tried by fire and still standing beautiful and proud today.

I visited the library on the occasion of the "Night of the Museums" event. It was a guided tour during which several halls were visited which, otherwise, it is probably more difficult to visit. The building, very old (commissioned in 1895), is wonderful, being recently renovated. It was built at the initiative of King Carol I. It suffered major damages over time, during the bombings of WW II, the earthquake of 1977 and the Revolution of 1989. Now, however, it is restored and looks wonderful!

I have seen only from outside the building.
It is a very imposant building, inaugurated in early 1900, after the 90's with the support of Unesco, the library was renovated and open to the public ten years after.
Located in the Revolution Square

This is such a classic and beautiful building in the old city of Bucharest.
While the access to the library was restricted (non-students were not allowed in during our visit), the building alone is worth the visit.
The beauty of this building is enhanced exponentially by the ugly looking memorial located next to it.

...Can you believe that in 1989, following the thunderous political revolution in Bucharest, this building was almost missing its domed, elegant roof? With its walls peppered by bullet holes and half distroyed by fire, this is how I remember it from those times.
And now, brightly renovated, reborn of its ashes, the Central Library stands proud accross from the Old Royal Pallace, waiting to be admired again.

Much of Bucharest is in drab socialist realist style but the library proves that Romanians have style and culture. We drive by but did not go in.

This library on the central Revolution sq is the most beautiful bldg in Romanian capital along with the CEC bldg further south.
It's across the Royal palace (now housing the National Arts museum) and in front of it is the equestrian statue of Carol I, the Romanian liberator of Ottoman occupation.
The library is named after him.

The rain suddenly came and I took shelter here. During my visit, there was a conference going on regarding Autism at the Meeting Rooms of the Library.
The staff were friendly and answered all my questions regarding the Library. In turn, they asked me questions regarding my visit of their city , whether I was enjoying it or not.
The "real" Library is on the other side of the Building where one can borrow books, etc.

The Central University Library was built in 1895.
It is located in the Revolution Square across the street from the National Museum of Art of Romania.
During the Romanian Revolution in 1989, a fire was started in the building and over 500,000 books were burnt.
