It is interesting too see so many really old monument just in the city centre. It isn't a museum with boring lecture - it is real history you can touch))

Climb up Vladimirskaya from khresshchatyk and come to the half timbered Golden Gate. Unfortunately closed on our visit but some good photos to be had from outside. make sure you get the eyes on the trees. just past here on the left hand side is a steep hill that makes for good photos as well.

The original Golden Gate, which was built in the 11th century, was a symbol of the Kievan Rus era. It was destroyed and then rebuilt in 1982 by the Soviets. The current Golden Gate is a replica. I didn't think there was much to see about this monument. Instead I was more fascinated by the Panteleymon cat statue nearby.

I've always wanted to see this since hearing Emerson, Lake & Palmer's rendition of the Mussorgsky composition on 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. I wasn't disappointed either. It is an impressive structure, although little is visible of the original gate. You have to go inside for that. It is situated in a pleasant park area with other interesting sculptures and things... We had a nice little visit to the Golden Gate. We were staying nearby and just stumbled upon it on our way to Khreschatyk. It's a very distinctive building, quirky and unusual and offers great city views from its upper floors. Not a massive amount to see and a lot of the displays are not in English. The museum is... I was out by myself enjoying the sites and I visited this place without any planning. It was a nice area and welcomed change from daily walks and visit.

This is a wonderful structure to view from the outside but not too much on the inside. The architecture of the surrounding buildings is worthy of the trip to this area of Kiev. A few food vendors in the area and restaurants on side streets provide a repast if needed. This may not be a main attraction but it is... More

A friend and I stopped by the Golden Gate today (Sunday morning on a cold day) while we toured some monuments. We couldn't believe we didn't visit sooner during our time in Kyiv. It was a great chance to connect with some of Kyiv's early history while getting some great views of the city. I never realized admission allowed you... More
