This crater lake is a short drive or bus ride from San Salvador city center. There is a small fee to go into the Turicentro but it’s clean and secured. There are plenty of restaurants and vendors where you can eat and drink. You can also go on a boat ride with one of the local boat operators. We did an hour long ride for $24 and there were 5 of us. The boat operator was very friendly and informative. We even picked mangos from a tree and they were delicious. A great way to spend an afternoon or you can plan to spend the day there.…

This lake is the closest tho the capital city San Salvador, and next to the Ilopango airport. Originally, this lake was formed in a volcano crater. Lots of fresh eater fishing, and watewr skiing, nice restaurants and lake shore homes. It is said that it has an exit to the sea under ground.…

Lake Ilopango is very similar in size and appearance to Crater Lake in Oregon, USA, and, as does Crater Lake, it has an island. The big difference is that Lake Ilopango is a popular resort area and is surrounded by mountain homes to take advantage of it's cooler climate. This lake is in about 45 minutes from San Salvador, pretty easy drive. Beautiful views, clear and warm water. I visited the Club Salvadoreno there which is located right on the shore. There are some water attractions such as kayaks and watercycles. Very clam atmosphere. Good for kids.…
