Love the staff at the El boqueron park, the fees is $2 (only cash) and it's great, it as a small food shop and museum and a path well manageable with maps and scenic view point to take great pictures, it's definitely worth the ride there, just ridding up there was a thrill itself, you can definitely see the lake and other volcano and this entire San Salvador city from up there and the El buquaron volcano is small but nice to see. The stairs are the hardest thing to do otherwise it's pretty easy path
Today's vagabond way to see the volcano without spending too much if you are located in San Salvador:
Uber to the site = 40minutes because of the tiny mountain roads it takes a while to get up there from Santa telca but very fun to explore and see, very tropical and beautiful with a high concentration on tourism you can find many attractions parks, hotels and restaurants on the way up to the national park.
Cost $7.50
Next pay your entrance fees: $2 cash
Enjoy the view points and climb up the stairs to see the cratere and volcano or see the mini museum and buy souvenirs on your way out
Eat lunch: $3.50 with a coffee or soda
With a volcano and lake view
Walk down for about 1.5miles and follow the autobus sign when you see it and there you are, just wait for the big chicken bus that says (Santa Telca) takes about a good 45minutes , runs very slow down the mountain and pick up many passengers, the views is great and cost=20 cents
Get off by the Plaza in Santa telca and enjoy the mall then take the bus that says Metro Centro or San Salvador for 20cens back.
Total cost $13.50
That includes:Round trip from San Salvador+Entry to the park+buses to Santa Telca+ Lunch Meal
Compare to $50-90 Advertise tour trips that takes hours to pick up people and don't even include the park fee .
If you exclude lunch it's $10 total or if you buy a souvenirs $15 max
If you don't without the Uber on your way there it's : $6.50 total
If you wanted to do it with Uber from Santa telca $18 total . You could take a Uber or taxi from the volcano to San Salvador but the cost is much higher from there and if you pay them cash it's around $20-30 one way witch I don't recommend.

With easy access through the city, El Boquerón National Park, has as its main attraction a 5 km diameter crater and 558 m depth. A show that gives even chills! At the bottom of the maios crater, there is a small crater called “Boqueroncito” (little Boquerón). The trail is easy and has several viewpoints to appreciate the spectacular view. $3 to enter and about 60 minutes to the trail, photos and a coffee.

This is a gorgeous and well maintained park. It is very accessible, don’t be scared off by the reviews that talk about how hard the stairs are. In addition to the amazing views of the caldera, and the many vistas along the way, the flowers are also spectacular.
Very close to San Salvador. We paid $2 per person and $1 for parking. The trails took about 45 minutes to walk.

It is a Volcano. Last eruption was in 1917. It offers parking to visitors and complete toilet services.
The paths are very clean and suitable for walkers. There is also access for people with mobility limitations.
The climb to the viewpoint is physically demanding, but completely worth it. Once up, I suggest going up to the viewpoint installed there. The top is finished with sturdy glass (Mirador de Cristal) for a more spectacular view of the crater, which is dark and full of nature.
The climb to Boquerón from San Salvador is difficult, because the street is very narrow and many visitors park their vehicles on the road, leaving in sections a single track to go up and down. There is not enough space for 2 vehicles against. The road is full of small restaurants and stalls selling sweets, fruit, soft drinks and crafts. The values are good; even economical compared to stores established in shopping centers in the city.

The highlight of Parque El Boqueron is the second crater of Volcan San Salvador known as Boqueron (Big Mouth). The interesting thing about this crater is that it has a secondary crater within it which resulted form an eruption in 1917 thus my title ‘crater in a crater’.
To get here you must get transport to the top of San Salvador Volcano. This is a bit of a long and winding road. We had private transportation as part of a larger tour of the city. I did note a public bus near to the top of this mountain but cannot recall the number. There is a small limited parking area at the top. Entrance is 2USD for foreigners and 1USD for locals. After going through the gate there is a short, unchallenging upwards hike to the viewpoint over the craters. While on this walk one is afforded a pleasant experience in nature with wild hummingbirds. There are numerous restaurants with panoramic views of the city that could be stopped at on the road coming down off the mountain.
Overall its a great use of half a day and a decent nature break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Close to an hour drive from the city, this involves a bit of trekking up a small hill so that you can view the crater from the top. This volcano is inactive and the last eruption was in 1917 destroying a large portion of the city. The park is open 8.00 to 5.00 and the entry fee in USD 1.00

Exploring this location offers a pleasant experience. However, the journey up the volcano poses some challenges due to the narrow, winding roads and the swift movement of local cars and buses. Upon reaching the summit, parking becomes a potential hassle due to limited space, resulting in a congested area that complicates turning around or finding a spot. The absence of an official structured traffic control system and visitor guidance adds to the chaos. If you manage to secure parking, the next step involves a walk to the entrance, where admission is free, and the ascent to the summit begins.
You don’t need a guide for this. Just your own transportation to the top.

Wonderful experience. Rode an Uber up to the top. Make sure you arrange for your driver to wait since there is no cell service at the top of the volcano. Better yet invite him to hike with you as we did. It is a short mildly strenuous hike from the parking lot to the several overlooks at the top providing amazing views of San Salvador Volcano. We spent 30-40 minutes hiking. The drive up to Boqueron is also quite spectacular with great views of the city of San Salvador. There are also many restaurants and cafes along the way and at the top to grab a bite or a drink and shopping opportunities at the top with vendors selling souvenirs and locally made goods.

It takes about a 10 minute hike up a hill to the first viewing sight to see the crater. You then return on a different path with a few more viewing spots. The views are good and the park is well maintained.
There is also a viewing spot at the bottom of the park where you can see San Salvador. I was a little disappointed in this spot as several trees blocked parts of the view.
The drive to get to the park might be better than the park itself. The last mile or so is very tight with lots of restaurants and businesses on a very narrow road. There are several spots with great views on the road.
It takes some effort to get there but is worthwhile if you have access to a car.

Visited El Boqueron early this month while vacationing in El Salvador with my family. This is a low-key high impact hike and perfect for amateurs. A great place to go to when you want to get out of the city and experience a quick change of air. You’ll need a few hours in your schedule to travel there and have enough time to enjoy the three visita points and eat the local fruit sold by the sweetest ladies. My family, and I drove our rental car there, and the drive is not for the faint of heart. Fortunately, my husband is from El Salvador and an excellent driver. We parked in a parking lot across from the park for a small fee and we met a sweet boy that became our tour guide and shared interesting information on our walk. We paid him $2 at our departure.

Hello, you know the price with a guide to go down the crater ? How long does it take ? Thanks.

I went with ECTOURS owner Edwin and our guide was Estefany..we only did the stairs to the viewing spots but I do know that they do a tour where you can hike down..I think it takes about 4-5 hours? Maybe depends on your skills. Sorry I couldn't help you out more.

Marcos quanto você passou nesse city tour?
Written September 19, 2017
Boa viagem!
