Really neat design, with a Gothic look about it. Reminded me of some of the churches in Prague and Budapest. The inside is also really pretty with some great artwork. They also have the head of Jesus from a statue that crumpled down during their last major earthquake.

Good but be careful outside since lot of thief walking around there, there is a place in front of that to eat Tortas and its the best place, yeah the basilica as well i guess.

Visited the Basilica with the ECTours Free Walking Tour group. Very European architecture but with an interesting back story and history. It was built in Belgium and shipped to San Salvador more than 100 years ago. First misdirected to San Salvador, Brazil but eventually arriving in El Salvador. It was reassembled, ongoing when the 1917 earthquake struck, and as a result of materials being stolen post-earthquake was never finished. The most astounding fact is the exterior of the church is covered in metal (tin?) panels! It’s not stone. Painted metal. Even the roof is tin. I’d love to see what it sounds like in the rain. Very peaceful inside and definitely worth your time to stop in and have a look around!…

A century old Neo-Gothic church that served members of a once wealthy but now rather shabby down-at-heels neighborhood. It appears to have been built of wood but clad with sheets of metal and then painted to look like stone. Interestingly directly across the street is some sort of LGBT community center with a giant "rainbow flag" displayed on the building.…
