Government corruption and just neglect have left this ornate structure a near ruin. Unlike similar structures in Granada or even in Guatemala, the Cathedral Antigua de Managua is in need of restoration and soon. Otherwise, there are a few plaques outside and inside the building...More

Visiting the cathedral from the outside and sightseeing all the sorrounding buildings is the right way to understand Managua and its history. This area used to be the center of Managua in the 70's, today it is part of the must to visit places in...More

There isn’t much to do besides look at the building and read things on it. It was really hot on the outside. Around it is really pretty though.

Hope that someday they restore it again and make it beautiful. Lots of history around this place that you must see.

Though you cannot enter the Cathedral but it is still a "MUST VISIT" when in Managua. We went there on Saturday and there was an outside event happening very close the building, lots of foods, fruits and dancing. A must visit.

You cannot get inside but the building is beautiful. There are LED lights in the building that look great at night. This is the old Managua area, a actual good feeling of the city.

The cathedral was half-destroyed during the big earthquake in 1972, and hence is inaccesible. However, it is very beautiful from the outside and a very interesting juxtaposition to the highly political square - which pays homage to the Nicaraguan Revolution and Revolutionary heroes - it...More

Ornate building. Looks fantastic at night when all the lights are lit. An interesting juxtaposition of a religious building on a plaza named after the most recent revolution.

Managua’s main cathedral is beautiful and haunting. Inaccessible due to earthquake damage, unrepaired in its wake, the cathedral remains a beautiful symbol of faith. Its graying exterior speaks to the horrors of the earthquake and the crimes of the Somoza administration in its diversion of...More
