We enjoyed walking part of the Quetzel trail yesterday. Fun but strenuous. We didn't see any wildlife we heard birds though.

Starting from Boquete we hitchhiked up to the ranger station (which would have been faster taking a cab as hitchhiking here is not very common and took us a while. The hike is very well indicated and the trail was easily accesible with only one challenging river crossing. We hiked all the way up to Cerro Punta Ranger Station from... More

We hiked at Baru National Park on the Quetzal Trail from Cerro Punta. It was beautiful! Some on the hike had been looking for resplendent Quetzal birds for 4 years and we saw one on the way in and two on the way out! It was awesome! I'm not a hiker so I can say this hike was steep at... More

in the middle of the night on the last day of my stay i decided to hike the trail as my trip so far had been overly touristy. went to the hostel on the boquette plasa at 8 am and they said i was too late to go to shuttle cero punta and make it back to boquette. so i... More

The rating here is simply because we should have hired a guide and we were unable to get a map from anybody in town. I'm also a bit suspicious of the reviews that called this hike 'easy' because there are significant elevation changes no matter which way you take the trail. We took the trail from Boquete toward Cerro Punto... More

We hiked the Quetzal trail in June. Saw no Quetzals but early on heard howler monkeys taunting us in the distance. Never saw them either. some other hikers said they saw a couple of sloths and ground squirrels. The ground was a bit wet and slippery, which made it slow going in places but it's not a very difficult trail... More

The Quetzales Trail from Boquete ranger station to Cerro Punta ranger station, takes 4 hours, and the return 3 (including some time spent looking for quetzals and a short lunch break): it is a fantastic trek, very easy to find and follow, always surrounded by a pristine and lush jungle. The advantage of the return trek is that you are... More

If you absolutely need to see a Quetzal in the wild, don't go in December. We were in Boquete two weeks ago and we didn't see a single quetzal. In fact, we didn't see many birds. The foliage is very dense so it's hard to spot them to begin with. However, our guide said that the best time to go... More

I hiked the Quetzal Trail with a group of four (myself included-- no guide) in late July 2012. The trail is officially closed by the government, though in theory it is still possible to do. We made the trek from Cerro Punta to Boquete. While the area is gorgeous and we made it ok, I probably would not recommend doing... More

I hiked the Quetzal Trail from Boquete to Cerro Punta, it's an uphill hike, it took us about 6 hours which included some breaks, pictures, and bushwacking to see some monkeys. We didn't see any Quetzels, but we saw some monkeys, mountain porcs, falcons, hummingbirds and other beautiful birds. It's a really nice trail, nice and narrow. I didn't find... More
