This museum is small, but like so many college art museums they have some excellent works available for viewing. It is not that easy to find. If you see a large stone church steeple, then just look behind it. The church is gone, but the...More

The first challenges are to find it, in the College grounds but not particularly prominently marked (look for an old church spire) and get somewhere to park within half a mile. Once inside you will get a friendly welcome and the opportunity to wander round...More

Eclectic collection in a lovely small museum. Easy to spend 1-2 hours to view. Changing collections. Recently renovated.

I have visited the Mead Art Museum over three dozen times in the past 39 years and I have never been disappointed. The art collection is outstanding and ever changing. The museum is located on the Amherst College Campus and I have often combined my...More

Not a big museum by any stretch of imagination, but nice nonetheless. Small but interesting exhibitions, plus some nice works of art. Lots of information for the exhibits. I picked up a copy of the museum highlights - which is a bit pricey but contains...More

I was pleased by the variety of art this museum exhibits. There's also a lovely dark wood paneled room, late tudor? which has a nice feel to it. They seem to put on a variety of exhibits throughout the year.

I was quite surprised by how small the Mead is (compared to the Smith College Museum of Art over in Northampton). However, the Mead certainly has its pleasures, including interesting works across an impressive span of time, from Babylonian to contemporary. I was very impressed...More

The collection is beautifully housed in a gallery on campus. The variety of the works (and the quality) make the visit a delight... something here for everyone and you can see the entire museum in less than an hour. Very easy to find your favorites...More

The Mead is a teaching museum and thus exhibits across genres and periods from its deep collection. However, special exhibitions--often with speakers, opening receptions, etc.--focus on particular artists or themes or periods, curated with intelligence and imagination. The museum has been recently renovated providing new...More
