- andrea s2 contributionsWorth a visitWe took a cab to the cable car station, it took about 15min from the city center and took the cable car up to the top of mt. Vodno. The cable car ride was short but very enjoyable! Definitely recomend it! On the top there was the Millenium cross and a café and some picnic areas. No info signs or anything but the views were amazing and got some good photos! Spent about 1,5 up there (there were som hiking trails as well but we didn´t do that), it was still a highlight of our skopje visit even though it was a bit run down!Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten July 12, 2023

On arrival from Albania and returning from Kosova to Skopje. From miles away the sight of the cross on this mountain warms the heart. I took the cable car up to the mountain in a very cold day but I was a bit disappointed to see that there isn't much to do up there but to get a close up of the cross. There was a little cafe and that was it. However, the view is the selling point, but because it was a foggy day the view of the city below was limited. It must be spectacular on a sunny day. It us a definite must-see site.Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten August 28, 2023

There are 360 degree views from the top that are simply breath taking. From various positions you can also see Skopje centre, other mountain ranges opposite, some of which are green and some that look like they have snow at their peaks. This is an awesome destination that I drove to then hiked for around 45 minutes from Sonje village to it's peak. Not to be missedVisited November 2023Travelled soloWritten December 2, 2023

Just outside Skopje, a taxi drive of about 10 minutes will bring you to the cable car. The Milennium cross is on the top, but you can also do some great walks and admire the views.

There are at least 5 ways up from the bus stop. We chose Olympic (by error) but it was a bit exposed and rough. Took 90 minutes going slowly. Maybe pensioners or new years might be preferable. The later two start 15m to the left of the steps leading to the Olympic and Buan paths. We came down the 6km paved road (90 minutes). Easy and no traffic, on a weekend anyway.
Disgusting portable toilets at the peak.
Bus 25 is still free on weekends.
Elevator up cross out of action permanently I would say.

Couple of cafés at top small shop , lots of paths up there, mount Kale is a good walk but the walk up Vodno itself is the thing. Cable car my fellow passengers assured me is Austrian built, like the local buses and the tea varieties around €0.75 at least off-season like now.

WE walked up the 5 kilometers rather than taking the cable car. It was a challenge but it was worth it

Cable car drive is nice and cheap, the view is great and there is also a small children's playground at the top

I've been here a couple of times (both hiking and with the cable car to the top). It's a popular place for families to go to at weekends as you can sit at Middle Vodno and have a nice picnic before you head on your hike or catch a cable car. There are also some restaurants at middle Vodno and a coffee to go at the top beneath the cross.

I believe it does; It is closed, as I recall, on Sundays and Mondays, however. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., again as I recall. If you want to catch the last bus back into Skopje, be sure to be down from the mountain in time!!
Hi. I want to hike from the milenium cross to Lake Matka. Is there a bus i can toke from Skopje to the cross? And the hike, does is start from the top of the hill on which the cross is, or downwards?
Has anyonw done the hike lately? I heard that a few years ago the marking signs were not very good

How long does it take to walk from the bus stop? And what bus do we need to get from the city centre?
Thanks

I don't really know the bus nr, but it wouldn't be hard to find out just ask the driver. The bus stops at the parking spot and it's just runt the corner to the cable car, would say 100m-150m.
