This beach was incredible! Most people come out via jeep and drive onto the beach and parked. There is a whole system to it and everyone lines up their car with the back of the jeep facing the ocean. Tons of families, lots of surfers and this year lots of whales! Very cool and they came back on multiple days!

If you want a beach that you can have the fun experience of driving on, setting up shop right out of the back of your SUV and enjoying the day, this is the beach for you! The fun does not stop there though. You can take surfing lessons, go boogie boarding, play Kadima etc. You must buy a sticker to have permission to go on the beach but it is well worth it.

The only beach to go to if you're looking to party. There some epic memories that have occurred here. The only downside is that over the past 5 or so years it has gotten to be too ridiculous...wait, nevermind...

Drove on the very crowded beach and was unlucky enough to park next to a young local couple drinking and looking to pick a fight with a tourist. The wife started accusing me of looking at her. I was with my wife and child certainly not looking for any trouble at all. I quickly apologized if the felt I was in the wrong. The family on the other side of us -who were also from out of town informed me this couple had given them a hard time prior to us getting there and probably had a chip on thier shoulder towards tourists. We decided to leave after a short time after the husband went down the beach a bit, to other local 20 something guys and angrily pointing at us. Clearly we were not safe at this beach and quickly left.

The most notorious of the drive on beaches in nantucket . You best get there before Noon most days in peak season or the entire 1/4 mile stretch is sold out in terms of parking on beach .
Everybody's teenaged kid goes here to find the jeep parked on beach with the beers and loud music . Once we saw lots of dogs presnet , we always brought ours . Its NOT the place to go for quiet time at beach . Even funnier is fact its at foot of the airport and so you have Gulfstream jets cruising in 50 feet over your head at times .
When you want quiet and solitude , and of the other drive on beaches are your place but when you want to mingle and keep your kids happy , its perfect

Great beach for surfers, teens, 20 somethings, and families. As you can see from the picture some people drive their car right onto the beach. Huge beach!

We've avoided the past few times we visited the island because the crowds have been pretty rowdy (we've read in the local news that alcohol may be the reason) - but to drive our Range Rover right on and to a spot to hang out, swim and sun is one of our favorite things to do on ACK. So if you are up for a more spirited day at the beach, this is the place. I think it's a twenty-somethings favorite location.

This was our favorite beach. Plenty of parking, not crowded, and clean water. This was a good choice for a quiet beach. Small waves, and easy swimming.

One of the best surf beaches on Nantucket. A relatively shallow sandbank allows decent waves to roll into shore. The beach can get busy in summer.
The East side of the beach has a 4wd parking along the beach. Not an area you want to visit if you are not in a 4wd.

You really need a 4WD and beach permit to get there, but you drive right up to the ocean and open you tailgate. The surf is usually good and it has become quite popular in more recent years. No small wonder because the entire beach and ocean floor is pure, clean, silky sand. While it may be crowded, we have always found space, and everyone there, young, old, families, etc., are friendly, relaxed and enjoying themselves. Not to be missed unless you like more quiet and secluded beaches, from which there are a good number of on Nantucket. Surfside is also nearby if you want a public changing room, lifeguards, concessions stand and rental beach chairs and umbrellas.
