The young female guide (island native) on site was very pleasant and she provided good information, and lots of interaction with each group of visitors. 5-stars for her effort. But, it was a simple structure of the homestead period. And, it did not give much...More

This is an interesting enough location. We were in one of the upper cells when we were locked in by the careless student-like docents who were closing up ten minutes early and seemed far more interested in each other than the customers Fortunately we managed...More

Simple site, but worth a peek. If you get the All-Access pass at the Whaling Museum there is no entrance fee and you get a tour guide to show you around.

We stumbled upon this site with just 30 minutes left before our ferry was due to leave. We told the guide to tell us whatever she could in 5 minutes. She certainly met the challenge! We learned about many escapes, about the sad story of...More

Really had an interesting time today at the Old Gaol. The guide did a great job of bringing this tiny jail to life. Definitely worth a visit. Kids love trying to open & shut the heavy front door!

Best time to see this little historic site is when there are guides available and its open for looking inside. Its included with your Whaling museum ticket too. Neat, quirky piece of history about the island. It actually cost more to build this little 4...More

Interesting old jail that was used until 1933. Docent provided interesting information about the contruction of the jail and about those who were jailed there. Not a short walk from downtown.

This is one cool building! The way that it is constructed is amazing. You wouldn't think a jail made of wood would be that effective, but it also is lined with a steel cage on the inside. There are only four rooms in the jail....More

This is a short exhibit including tour of the second jail on the island. Built to be escape proof, still had one escape. 4 cells. Different than other jails we had seen in other old historic towns. Took about 15 minutes. Short walk from town.More
