Relaxing and friendly park

Good place to relax and enjoy people watching. You will often be greeted by a local just wanting to practice their Spanish.

You'll get hounded by locals trying to sell you things you don't need or want but that's part of the travel experience. Worth the trip because there are so many good restaurants surrounding the park.

The Plaza Central park is the hive activity, moreso after around 4pm when locals seem to congregate. There are beautiful trees, seating and pathways and the park is peppered with street vendors selling souvenirs as well as food. It's the landmark for everywhere in Antigua - all roads lead to the park! The horse drawn carts leave from here (which... More

I was hounded by so many locals to buy trinkets, that my focus was more on leaving the Square than enjoying it. They aren't too pushy, but hover for a couple minutes showing everything they offer....one right after another. "No gracias" does not deter them.

Located smack dab in the middle of town (as is true of ALL Spanish colonial towns and cities). I sit there almost every day on one of the many benches that surround the beautiful fountain All the important buildings surround this plaza and the vendors of locally made handicrafts and snacks DO understand the word "NO", but it's good to... I love this park. I do. It's beautiful. It's great for people watching. Go at 7am, buy a coffee at Cafe Condesa, and watch the city wake up. However, once the city does wake up, you'll be accosted by people wanting to sell you blankets, shine your shoes, or take your spare change. It's hard to relax and enjoy the... More

I spent 3 amazing weeks in Antigua in July and August of 2015 attending Don Pedro de Alvarado Spanish School, and one of my absolute favourite after class activities was wandering around the streets and settling in Parque Central to people watch and visit. Always lots of vendors, great views of the cathedral and lovely buildings, friendly locals to talk... More

Parque Central stands surrounded by history on all sides. This Central Park has a huge old fountain with mermaids jutting out water from their breasts! Quite imaginative even 400 years back! The place is filled with local people enjoying the air, the breeze and the sights of the place. You will find typical Mayan women from the highlands dressed in... More
