Casa Popenoe appeals to the inquiring mind. It prompts us to ask questions about ideas, about passion, about commitment; about history, art, science, beauty, austerity, proportion. What role does each play in human development? In the development of civilization?

This is an ancient home, turned into a Museum by one of the best universities in Guatemala, where sometimes events are held. Built in 1700. There is the main home, a big house and some extensions were built through the years, making it a very extensive property. There is also a stable. Lots of art to appreciate. Beautiful furnishings and... More

This was a FANTASTIC tour. A must book. Make sure you email ahead and book a tour, you can't just show up. You get to see the whole house, touch everything. Our tour guide loved the home and loved showing it to us. I would say this is one of the best tours I have ever taken. I loved this... More

I had a wonderful, private tour of the house and grounds this afternoon. I sent an email yesterday to arrange it - you need to plan in advance but not much. Really interesting history of the house and its owner, who seems to have been instrumental in making Antigua what it is today. Beautiful courtyards and art in the carefully... More

My husband and I visited the house and had a super tour round with English speaking Lauren as our guide. To visit the house you have to book a tour online on their website and it costs $10 each. We requested the tour the day before we wanted to go and it was virtually confirmed immediately so don't be put... More

By all means reserve a tour at this fantastic 18th Century that was restored by American Wiison Popenoe after he bought it and some adjoining property in the 1930s. His family lived in the home until 2007 and it is now part of Universidad Francico Marroquin. The Wilsons decorated the home with colonial furniture and art from all over Central... More

In addition to seeing a beautifully restored historic house, your tour of Casa Popenoe will give you an incredibly rich history of Antigua, what happened to it and how it came to be restored. You'll glimpse the beautiful interiors behind the painted walls of the city. At the end of the tour, when you go up to the rooftop, you'll... More

My wife and I had a wonderful conducted tour by the curator Loren Lemus who had a great sense of history and enthusiasm for Casa Popenoe. It is a fairly large complex and our tour lasted nearly two hours as there are many areas to see and photograph, all faithfully restored Spanish colonial. We would rate this Casa as second... More

We are glad you like the house and the Tour! Every time we give a tour we really enjoy showing the colonial architecture and the effort Wilson Popenoe did to preserve it and to promote the Colonial Architecture in la Antigua Guatemala... And yes, step by step we will try to apply all the suggestions you wisely gave to us.... More

Our hotel called in the a.m. & booked a tour for 6 of us at 2 p.m. the same day. Street signage was obscure and there is no obvious signage on the front door at the Casa. By fluke we noticed the word "Poponoe" amongst the Spanish on a notice attached to the door as we stood right beside it... More

The guided tour provided interesting insights. Visitors are actually encouraged to touch stuff unlike many "museum quality" mansions.

It's not always open nowadays; it's owned by one of the Guatemala City universities ... no longer by the daughters of Mr. Popenoe. I was there last month for a beautiful event, when the College of Gastronomy had a contest as to which of the teams could come up with the best avocado recipe. It was Mr. Popenoe who brought...
