I might lack appreciation for architecture, but to me the Arco de Santa Catalina adds charm to Antigua, but so does the stone streets, the small markets and the old buildings.

If you go in the afternoon and find a nice place to sit you can watch as everyone of every creed and color (including some impressive sunburns) pass by. It’s a tourist attraction, but has created a nice environment for people watching.

It's just an arch of course, but it's Antigua's iconic structure. You'll stumble upon just by walking the cobblestone streets. If you are an early riser you can visit it while no one is there. Otherwise, enjoy the active street in the afternoon. For more...More

The arch was originally built to allow nuns on either side of the street to cross over without being seen by the public!

And especially around this photogenic archway! Volcanos! Rustic buildings! Cobblestone streets! Oh yeah. Come here during semana Santa fr some extra festive-ness. Very touristy, but so were we.

Great place at all hours for photography. I liked night best, due to the amount of people out and around, but you could get great pictures here anytime of the day or night.

All the shots you see of Antigua have this beautiful picture of Arco de Santa Catalina. As you walk through the city and look at the colonial architecture, you will see the arch and why sometimes the simple things are beautiful.

Take a picture and move on. There's a very big, good souvenir shop right by it, as well as a very good restaurant (Los Tres Tiempo).

The arch is a beautiful example of colonial architecture. Make sure to get the picture thru the arch with the volcano in the background. The cobblestone street and old building now housing restaurants and shops make the area quite attractive. There is a little shop...More
