The Experience Guatemala Tours are a unique opportunity to get off the beaten tourist path, and see first-hand the beautiful, yet complicated reality of everyday life for most Guatemalans. Our tours consist of visiting local, non-touristic towns where we provide education for children who otherwise would not have access to it. Before touring our schools, we visit local workshops, which are examples of the important local industries in that town, to give you insight into the daily life of these families. The Experience Guatemala Tour will let you see Guatemala for both its beauty and its struggles, with 100% of profits going directly to our schools. The Ciudad Vieja tour consists of a short trip on a local 'chicken' bus, a visit to a chicken bus factory, a visit to a coffin workshop, a walk in the neighbourhood where many of our students live and tours of two of our beautiful schools, Nuestro Futuro and Básico. The San Lorenzo El Cubo tour consists of a short trip on a local 'chicken' bus, a visit to a carpentry workshop, trying your hand at making a Quitapena (worry doll) with one of the mothers from our school. We will then head to our school El Porvenir before heading back to Antigua. Prices: 2 – 4 people – adults: $45/Q350 each, children: $35/Q280 Public Tour 4+ people – adults: $35/Q270 each, children: $25/Q200 Private Tour – adults: $40/Q310 each, children:$30/Q240 The tour fee covers your guide, transportation, and coffee/tea. All profits go to our schools. Payment can be made in advance via PayPal or in Quetzales or USD at our office before the tour departs. If paying in cash, exact change is requested. All profits go directly to our projects. The scheduled days vary Monday to Friday depending on demand. Tours depart at 8.00am from our offices located at 4a Calle Oriente 28, Antigua, Guatemala. If you would like to come on the tour, please contact us at least one day in advance to confirm there is a tour on for that day and so we know to expect to see you at 4a Calle Oriente #28, Antigua.

I really enjoyed being able to see something very different from the usual tourist sights and learning more about how people live & work. I did the 'hybrid' tour which brought us to two different areas, visiting 3 schools and several workshops (worry dolls, carpentry,...More

This tour was great. The guide could have talked a bit more about Guatemalan culture and norms, and offered more information without having to be asked, but overall he was good. It seemed a little random - a chicken bus workshop, a coffin workshop, a...More

My husband and I, along with our 11 and our 12 year-old boys had a wonderful time with our guide Cristian. Not your everyday kind of tour, but this feel-good trip will inspire you while experiencing a different, colourful and wonderful culture.

There is contact info on their web page. I emailed a request to find out details about a tour, and they got back to me the same day.
