The Experience Guatemala Tours are a unique opportunity to get off the beaten tourist path, and see first-hand the beautiful, yet complicated reality of everyday life for most Guatemalans.

The first tour consists of a short trip to Ciudad Vieja on a local 'chicken' bus, a visit to a chicken bus factory, a visit to a coffin workshop, a walk in the neighbourhood where many of our students live and finally a tour of our beautiful school, Nuestro Futuro.

The second tour consists of a short trip on a local 'chicken' bus, a visit to a carpentry workshop and trying your hand at making a Quitapena(worry doll)with one of the mothers from our school. We will then head to our newest school El Porvenir before heading back to Antigua in a private shuttle.

The cost of the tour is Q200pp for our Nuestro Futuro school and Q250pp for El Porvenir.

All profits go directly to our projects. Tours leave Tuesdays (El Porvenir) and Thursdays (Nuestro Futuro) at approximately 8:00am from Antigua). Private tours are also available on request.

We visited a coffin-making factory, a chicken bus workshop, as well as the primary school run by NDG in Ciudad Vieja. The tour provides a fascinating insight into local community life that isn't normally accessible to the average tourist visiting Antigua. Plus the profits go back to the communities that NDG are trying to help. Highly recommended.

My husband and I did the Ciudad Vieja Tour. We got to take a tour of a couple of the schools that the NGO have built and gotten running, including learning about their projects within the school and how they get the local community involved too. We also got a mini coffee tour by a local man who's family coffee... More

We did the Ciudad Vieja Tour with Niños de Guatemala and can't recommend it enough. It is run by an NGO who are doing great things not only for the schools they run, but also their entire communities. We visited a school (super interesting and informative), had coffee at the house of a lovely local family from a coffee cooperative... More

This tour is unlike most others. Hannah, our tour leader spent time with the locals she is working with to develop a relationship. This relationship really shows through in the quality of the tour. Ninos de Guatemala is an NGO that is business savvy. This tour not only supports their initiatives but keeps the company itself sustainable. Knowing that your... More

I dont recall how I stumbled across their website, however the Ninos de Guatemala tours are fantastic. My friend and I did the San Lorenzo el Cubo tour this morning and will be doing the Ciudad Vieja tour next Tuesday. We had two guides this morning, Hannah and Ale. Hannah is British but has spent many years living in Spain,... More

Ninos de Guatemala is an NGO that helps children and their families by providing education and other vital needs. To support their efforts, they offer "Experience Guatemala" tours. I took the Thursday tour. We visited a coffin factory, a primary school, and a chicken bus factory. All aspects of the tour were fascinating. Hannah's depth of knowledge impressed and inspired... Our tour started with Hannah giving us information about Guatemala and the education of children in this country. After walking several blocks to catch a "chicken bus", we went to Ciudad Vieja. Once off the bus, we walked up the long street (up a mountain) to see two of the schools (elementary and junior high) that Ninos de Guatemala and... More

I absolutely loved our Cuidad Viejo tour. Our guide Hannah was effervescent, attentive and passionate. Adorable to visit the friendly kids of the Nuevo Futuro school. We then visited a family coffin making business and chicken bus factory, which was really interesting to learn about different cultural aspects. The best part about the tour is that it gives back to... More
