This gate is on the side of the bus & train station, when you walk through the markets. It worked out great for me as my Hotel was right next to it and there is plenty of things to do in that location.

The palace can be accessed via 4 gates located along North, south, east & west side of the palace. Good to visit all four to experience them.

It is a wonderful place and very popular. Shame not more effort is made to protect the archway. Worth reading a guide book on its history. The old city is well worth spending some time in.

This entrance is not the most interesting, and is next to houses and full of souvenir tents and shops. But is near to the bus stops (local buses) and to the road to the ferries and so on.

this gate cannot be missed since it leads to the old city and is part of Diocletian's Palace. It is a beautiful and historic gate. The street in front of the gate has a lot of different souvenirs if you need to do some shopping.

Eastern or Silver Gate is one of the entrances to the Palace and is hard to miss. What's a little harder to miss though, is the "Eye of the Needle" right next to it on the left side if you're looking from the outside. If...More

This is one of several gates that you can use to enter the old part of town, which sits as the name suggests, along the eastern wall, a stones throw from Diocletian's Palace. Indeed the Peristyle can be seen as one enters. This for me...More

This is all part of the Diocletian's Palace and of course each gate is worth seeing. The construction going back to 295-305 is part of the worlds history and that's always worthwhile to see and learn about

If you are already in the palace then do explore all 4 gates. the main gate is the Golden Gate with the Ninski statue. I guess the Silver gate was for the soldiers and the golden gate only for the emperor.

While on our one day visit to Split, we used this splendid ancient Roman gateway to both gain access to and depart from the old town. This marvellous gate has wonderful Roman architecture and is one of the true landmarks to be found among the...More
