About
Lokrum Island, home to a botanical garden, salt lake, and Benedictine monastery dating back at least to 1023, is a great escape from the bustle of Dubrovnik. Travelers and locals alike visit this island for its idyllic walking paths, natural swimming pools, and colorful peacocks. It’s also popular among Game of Thrones fans as the filming location for Qarth. A perfect day trip, boats regularly leave from Dubrovnik's Old Town port and take just 15 minutes to get to Lokrum. An additional entrance fee is required on the island. Lokrum is busiest in the summer vacation months of July and August. – Tripadvisor

    Botanical gardens, monastery and history
We were with a cruise ship tour group when visiting in July and it was very hot. We took a water taxi from Dubrovnik Old Town to Lokrum Island and spent time walking the botanical gardens and the old monk monastery then went through the museum. We had fresh squeezed lemonade at the small cafe near the boat landing then walked to the Dead Sea area and the swimming hole and past swimming beaches. It would have been a perfect day to swim but the tour group chose not to get wet on this day.

    Enjoyable but expensive.
We visited the island on our first day in Dubrovnik which was beautiful however slightly expensive. I’m not sure where extra charges come in but we paid €27 each for the boat and didn’t have to pay anymore on the island. If you’re planning on going plan to go for the whole day picnic and all. The island cafes and restaurants are very expensive even for a drink although they have good cocktails. There is a water fountain which you can fill your bottle up from (all taps/fountains are drinking water in Dubrovnik). The island is beautiful and worth going to especially for the clear waters and the rock jumping.

    A beautiful island.
A beautiful island to visit. Peacocks (and their babies) roam free. There are endless trails around the island, although these aren’t well signposted so make sure you take a picture of the maps dotted around. Don’t forget to take a swimming costume too - we spent the morning relaxing and swimming here with only a few locals for company. Much quieter than the mainland. The Game of Thrones chair is situated on the island as well. 10 minutes by ferry, so an easy place to get to!

    Beautiful haven
A wonderfully relaxing spectacular escape from the busy (but beautiful) streets of Dubrovnik. A Lokrum ticket is not cheap. €27 each for adults ( under 18s €5) for the boat and entry to Lokrum but it’s a well maintained little paradise. Of course it’s full of people, in July everywhere is in Dubrovnik, but there are plenty of shady quiet places to explore away from the main areas so it doesn’t feel overcrowded. Bring your own supplies. There are cafes but it’s a captive market and they have to ship everything in so expect to pay more. There are so many places to take a cool dip in the sea or try the “Dead Sea” a salty pool that is filled with sea water but not coastal. Don’t forget your rock shoes for swimming as there isn’t any sand just shale and rock and it’s much more comfortable underfoot. Wear good shoes to walk around the island. Although paths close to the dock are paved the further out you get they become more rudimentary and the rocky coast is very uneven. Don’t wear flip flops like I did! And of course if you are a Game of Thrones fan you must go to the monastery and take a seat on the Iron Throne. Get there at 10 am and make a whole day of it. It’s worth it

    Great escape from the crowds
We had an amazing day at Lokrum. The water quality is excellent. There are a few nice restaurants and bars on the island, but you don't come here for the food or drinks. As locals say - the island is basically their escape from the crowds of Old City. Game of Thrones fans will love that there is a replica of the GoT throne.

    Tranquil escape
Thought it was terrific. We had paid €80 for a day at a beach club was ok but not special. Lokrum island is a great escape from heat and crowds of Dubrovnik. plenty of places to sit on benches, rocks etc and swim in clean clear water, not crowded. botanical gardens and historic monastery for a bit of 'culture', some easy hiing through forest for some exercise. Perfect. go early and enjoy a day there. €27 per head seemed good value to us

    A must do in Dubrovnik
An absolute must visit while in Dubrovnik. We bought tickets at the harbour and walked straight on to a boat. The island is well sign posted for wondering around. Lots of wee cafes and stalls to buy water or a sandwich etc from. There was a water tap that we drank from and public toilets available (with big queues). I loved the ‘dead sea’ lake for a swim and then relaxing by the sea. There are ladders in to the water and places to jump off. Showers available for free too. There’s a play park for kids and a (quite steep) walk up to the fort. A great day out suitable for all the family!

A peaceful, tranquil escape from Dubrovnik with a fantastic views and glorious nature
An absolute must have for any trip to Dubrovnik. A very quick ferry ride from the old town transports you from the hectic crowds of Dubrovnik, to a tranquil, peaceful nature reserve with an absolutely stunning Adriatic backdrop. The whole island is very well signposted, there’s enough to do to entertain children for a full day and also places to stop and get food and drink. Peacocks wander freely, there are steps to get in and out of the sea and a small salty lake called the ‘dead sea’ to float around in. We explored and swam in the morning, found a lovely shaded area to eat lunch, then walked up to the fort - at a really steep Hill, but worth it for the views. The ferry cost about €80 for a family of four, which isn’t cheap, but the rest of the day out makes it more than worth it.

    Great day out
Had a great day out here! Bought tickets on the day at the ticket office at the harbour. The island is beautiful. Plenty of people relaxing with a bit of sunbathing and swimming but we went for a walk around the many tracks and visited all the points of interest on the map. It has to be said that some of the points of interest are not really all that interesting, and the tracks are pretty rough on the north side of the island and also quite steep, but the walk was very beautiful. Enjoyed a great lunch at the restaurant by the monastery and ice cream at the cocktail bar near the Dead Sea.

I can see why some people come here and think it’s a disappointment- but ultimately you need to go knowing what’s there. You can do some walks - there’s a little bit of history displayed - a couple of places to eat / drink (very expensive) and then pools and the sea to either sit by and relax or swim in - that’s it ! So go with the knowledge that you can relax all day, rather than expecting anything else - if that’s not your idea of a nice day - then don’t go as you’ll be disappointed!

Beautiful island just a few minutes on a ferry from Dubrovnik. Take a picnic and swimwear and spend the day exploring. There are a couple of restaurants and bars on the island. Many photo opportunities.

Very good experience. The island has a lovely nature. The dead sea was a nice detail. The bar near it was cozy place too. They sell delicious ice cream only 3 € each.

We caught the boat in the marina and 15 minutes later were stepping onto Lokrum Island. The island is beautiful and there are different walks, we walked upto the Fort, in areas is was hard going, as it is small stones, there are benches with beautiful views. We loved seeing the peacocks and their babies!! We found a lovely picnic area with benches. The ice=cream we found was only 2 euros each and we found shelter to enjoy!!

This island is right across from Dubrovnik. It does not look much seeing it from Dubrovnik but it is really worth a visit if one has the time. It takes a short ferry ride which allows a view of Dubrovnik from the sea. The island has a relaxed feel which is a nice change from Dubrovnik. There are hiking paths, cosy restaurants and historical sites and a nice view looking back at the mainland. But most surprisingly, it is a place with peacocks roaming around while you are having a meal or drink. Totally unexpected.

Expensive ferry, 27€ per person for round trip. Some of the online prices are outdated. Expensive bars on the island. GoT center was ok, but we really could not hear a thing on the TV's where cast and crew talk about filming.
Pheasants were nice, and the views from the fort were beautiful, worth the climb.
Few nice places for swimming, if you want to bring your swimming essentials.

Have visited lokrum many times so was excited to go back again.
It’s still as beautiful however the ferry cost has sky rocketed now £27 per person, we used to pay £12 just 3 years ago.
And £6.50 for a soft drink is beyond belief
Worth a day visit but take your own provisions as a family would easily spend around £200

Lose the crowds and visit Lokrum Island the perfect location to enjoy some peace and tranquillity. Lots to see with some great walking trails, places to swim and some fantastic dining options. As well as some genuine places of interest to explore.

You can be at one with nature as many peacocks roam around freely. Some great views of Dubrovnik. I spent a couple of hours here and had a very pleasant time.

With ferries back to the port of Dubrovnik every half hour it is easy and convenient to visit.

This boat trip was just what we were looking for. We wanted to see the sights of Dubrovnik from the sea and that is exactly what we got. The commentary was very informative and the skippers added extra detail too. Would definitely recommend, particularly if you don’t want something to last too long - this was just under an hour.

If you are in Dubrovnik for a length of time a day over on the island is a must do. It's just 10 minutes on the boat and the boats regularly leave the old port all day long. Whilst on the island you can see the old monastry, where the Game of thrones iron throne is located. You can walk around the botanical garden and also take a short hike up to the old fort. There are a few restaurants and cafes on the island and you can swim in the beautiful dead sea pool. I would strongly advise on taking some aqua shoes with you if you swim as it is very rocky! Overall a beautiful, peaceful place.
