Small gate in the city walls that leads logically enough from the sea into the heart of the Old Town.

Also known as St Chrysogonus' Gate (Vrata Sv Krševana) this port-facing archway was built in 1573 and sports the Venetian lion and part of a Roman triumphal arch.
Above the Roman cornice on the gate´s land-facing side there is an inscription (a memorial to the 1571 Battle of Lepanto where the Ottoman fleet was defeated off western Greece).

It's part of the old city wall of Zadar.Entrance point if you're entering the city from the pedestrian bridge across the marina. An impressive architectural achievement in the context of its time, slightly less impressive than the Zadar main gate. Only worth making a detour for if you're a history or architecture fan.

Amazing place
Friendly people, you don't always find a free parking space straight away, but eventually you do. Parking fee is not really cheap, but as you have a lot to see, it is worth it.

The lion on the gate holds an open book which means that the city of Zadar had to pay taxes to the Serenissima (Venice).
Nice place for taking pictures.

Another one of the iconic gates in Zadar. Very grand, excellent entrances into the city. Loved looking at all the intricate stonework.
