If I could rate Dorosh Heritage Tours a 10 out of 5 I would do it in a heartbeat ! Andriy is genealogist, researcher, planner, tour guide, interpreter, videographer and becomes a lifelong friend ! My sister and I went on a three week tour in 2017 of Ukraine. It was a trip of a lifetime; emotional, fun, educational and we have met relatives that we never knew we had and remain in contact.
He adapted to our needs and his presentation is top notch. He selected hotels that were extraordinary and tours that matched our interests. He has a team of people that he has carefully selected to maintain his impeccable business style. Our every need was met, a van that he cooled before our drives, a mini fridge in the van w cold drinks of our choice, restaurants that provided a variety of choices, luggage carried, doors opened … he is the ultimate gentleman ( never snickering at our middle age out of shape needs ).
After this phenomenal experience, my sister then contacted him again in 2021 to do a virtual tour of our two ancestral villages that we visited in 2017. And you are probably asking yourself if you saw it in person why would you want a virtual tour ?!! Well, when we watched the video we cried and laughed and promised to visit again. Andriy and his team created a keepsake. Again, his attention to detail did not go unnoticed.
He is an absolute treasure to the history of Ukraine and its people.
If you ever have the opportunity or desire to visit Ukraine, Dorosh Heritage Tours will not fail you. I recommend Andriy without hesitation !

We met Andriy Dorosh in 2013 through a trip advisor review on a Ukraine forum. What a wonderful find that was! When we visited Lviv that fall , he arranged a guide to escort us to Bavoriv looking for my husbands maternal grandfather’s family. Without any prior research or knowledge we amazingly managed to find family nearby in Grabovets.
Andriy had impressed us with his friendliness , professionalism and enthusiasm . Since then I have followed him on FB in hopes of returning to Ukraine and touring with him.
This summer when Andriy posted about doing virtual tours due to the pandemic, I had the idea to look for my husbands maternal grandmother as a surprise 70th birthday gift.
Andriy’s professional researcher, Olga , did an amazing job researching 270 people from 80 families to potentially locate living relatives. Andriy and his team visited Grabovets and Bavoriv filming the surrounding landscape and ancestral villages. With the use of an old map that Olga had researched, they located the ancestral plot of the family. Then miraculously, they even located 6 living relatives there and interviewed some of them. One cousin cried “she had been waiting for her family to find her”. Andriy presented us with the most beautiful and emotional video of his visit there. Now we have even made contact with some of the family through Facebook and video chat! Truly amazing experience all thanks to the interest and perseverance of Andriy and his team at Dorosh Heritage tours. We will be forever grateful and now Andriy is a part of our family story. We will definitely plan to return in 2022 to travel and visit our family with Andriy.
We so highly recommend he and his team for one of the most memorable experiences in our lives. If you have potentially lost family in Ukraine, look for them it is so worth it!

Fortunately, we had two wonderfully planned and joyous experiences with Andriy! He planned a three week tour for my my sister and I including unforgettable stops in Poland and Ukraine and the ancestral villages of our grandparents. From the baptismal certificates he was able to bring us to the actual villages in western Ukraine that my grandparents were raised in before they immigrated to America. Andriy was our translator/driver/coordinator and also used a couple other tour guides in various areas. Because my knee got a little sore, he had no problem adjusting the itinerary. The transportation in his large comfortable van always included cold water bottles. We were traveling during a heat wave and this was just terrific. Andriy is an enjoyable , professional, knowledgeable and fun heritage tour guide. To call him a tour guide is such an understatement. We did not expect beautiful comfortable hotels and every stop. He limited the amount of driving per day so that we could enjoy ourselves. Andriy would accompany us wherever we went. We are two middle aged women and occasionally just wanted to sit and take in the beauty. From the top of the Tatra mountains to the beauty of Lviv and of course the villages….this was the best trip of my life and we are so glad we actually did it. Please email me at kchiodo@roadrunner.com if you need any questions. Please don’t delay your trip. After Covid had passed it will be the trip of your lifetime.

We also asked Andriy to do a virtual tour of our ancestral villages. He sent it last week. He was able to find a relative that verified bits of information I heard as a child. The video brought me to tears, literally. It was professionally and beautifully done.. The hardships of our ancestors were clear and those that survived such circumstances are my heros. I have added people to “my family” that I will cherish forever. This is a nice time to ask Andriy to do his virtual tour option with covid. He also does genealogy and may be able to find ancestors.

This trip and his virtual tour went way beyond our expectations !!

OUTSTANDING! Dorosh Heritage Tours arranged our tours of Lviv and Kviv and the tour guides selected by Andriy were first class and most accomodating since we had several personal points of interest that we did not want to miss. Andriy was our personal guide and translator for the portion of our visit where we had a meeting scheduled with the Ternopil National Medical University and Andriy's translation skills were flawless. The second part of our tour was to visit the village where my father was born and as a young man he emigrated to Canada. The main purpose of our visit to the village was to hopefully find documents pertaining to our Ukrainian ancestry. Unfortunately, we failed. After many years or research in Canada we were also not very successful in tracing our family's history since many of the immigration records are inacurate. After we returned to Canada., Andriy was most helpful in initiating the search of the records in Ukraine and with the able assistance of Olia Waldman they were able to establish our family history in incredible detail going as far back as the early 1840's. We were speechless and to say this was an emotional event would be an understatement. PURE GOLD! Since this information became available after we returned to Canada, Andriy made a special trip back to the area and personally interviewed our closest living relative that he found who lives in Chortkiv and the relatives that are living in the village. Since our first contact in June of 2019 we have been in regular contact with Andriy and Olia to continue the research on both family and other projects. Andriy recently completed a virtual video tour of the family'svillage which is extremely well done and it is now a valuable part of our Ukrainian family ancestry library. Andriy is a true Ukrainian patriot and as such recently established a virtual video project on Kickstart which we are proud to be part of and the goal is to record the history of Western Ukraine under Soviet occupation before the stories of the people that lived through this brutal period are lost forever. Andriy has become a true friend and we consider him as family. Experience is June 2019 to present.

Our group of eight (four couples) just completed an amazing eight day tour of Western Ukraine. We had seven Ukrainian speakers and one English only speaker and everyone was glowing in their praise for Andriy's tour. Some of our group had family but, in essence, we wanted to learn and understand what it meant to be Ukrainian. We organised our own experiences in Kyiv and Lviv but wanted to savour the special dimensions of Ukraine by travelling through Western Ukraine with an 'expert' tour guide, who would take responsibility for transport, accommodation and any spontaneous special moments that may arise as part of the tour. We wanted to be immersed totally in Ukraine.

Andriy was a revelation. His knowledge of history, politics, language and culture was outstanding. We had a rough idea for our itinerary but were uncertain of what we wanted to see and experience. The only parameters we had being two people in our group with slight mobility issues and we also had two (brief) family visit intentions in Lutsk and Ternopil. Otherwise we entrusted Andriy with the planning. Andriy's suggested itinerary factored everything possible into the experience and this was particularly special because he ensured maximal exposure to significant events and different experiences on the way. Transfers to and from airports and hotels were organised without any fuss.

Whenever a question arose in conversation, Andriy had an answer within minutes. His local knowledge and his network of guides was exceptional. One member of the group had trouble contacting family, having only a vague name and a village (selo) yet within an hour, Andriy had organised an email address and a phone number to facilitate a happy reunion. At times, we decided to change the itinerary because of changed circumstances or tiredness. Andriy was happy to do this with a minimum of fuss. Andriy's network of guides was superb throughout with notable guides being Nastia (Hotyn), Taras (Ternopil), Maksym (Kamyanets Podilski) Svitlana and Luba (Karpaty), and the brilliant Andriy (Ivano Frankivsk) with specialist local knowledge giving us music, history and laughter to complement the rich knowledge being imparted during the progress of the tour. Coffee awareness and location of bathrooms was brilliant.

Our driver with the same name - Andriy, was exceptional. We were all pleasantly surprised how he avoided using his phone whilst driving, avoided drinking alcohol, respected the road rules and how quietly and unobtrusively he ensured all our luggage was packed and were comfortable throughout the tour.

Andriy's ability to share his love for Ukraine and his distinct passion for everything Ukrainian made our trip special in so many different ways. The laughter, the knowledge, the culinary experiences, the culture and indeed, the insight into the psyche of the current people in Western Ukraine was extraordinary. We are all keen to work with Andriy again and we would certainly recommend him to anyone wanting to connect with their roots, their heritage or just to have a taste of what makes Ukraine special. Andriy can tailor a tour to whatever the participants desire. This is what made this tour so special. Thank you.

My mother and I decided to try to find where in Ukraine my Polish grandmother was from. I found Andriy though a Google search, and I was quickly impressed by his professionalism once we started corresponding. He is a meticulous researcher, a wonderful guide, and wonderful with people. He organized our trip very well, serving as guide and driver himself (he has a high-quality vehicle and is a great driver). But where Andriy really adds value is in his deep knowledge of research methods in genealogy.

We visited a number of sites, stopped in local records offices, scoured cemeteries for ancestors, etc. He also helped us send emails in advance to archives in Poland where some of the information is now stored. Andriy was tireless in helping us find our family members' history. In the end, what really made the difference was his excellent knowledge of the records office system and the time he has spent cultivating contacts there. At the end of our last day, we got a call from the records office- after we left they found the birth records mixed in in a different parish! Andriy rushed us back and we got to see the original birth records of my grandmother and her siblings.

On our last day, I had wanted to see Pochayiv Monastery separate from our sightseeing itinerary. It wasn't in the scope of our original tour, but Andriy was very flexible and adding in a day with us, driving us to the site and giving us some interesting detail about it.

In addition to his skills as a guide and researcher, Andriy is excellent company. He is a thoughtful, intelligent person, who speaks exquisite English and Polish in addition to Ukrainian. It was truly an unforgettable trip, and it meant a lot to my mother and me.

We just finished a two week Genealogy Research Trip with Andriy. We supplied him with the villages where my ancestors lived and he developed a trip just for us. It included the villages as well as archives where we could do research. He helped us with the research when we were stuck on a language issue. The trip to the village of Skotarske, Ukraine was the highlight of the trip. It was there that we were able to prove a “family story” true, even though we had questioned it in the past. The hotels that we stayed at were good choices. We highly recommend Andriy

Rich and Pam, that is right, Skotarske was the highlight! Hearing the same family stories (unbelievable stories that sounded like fairy tales before we proved they are true! how old are they? More than 100 years??) from a random man on the street and proving that he is a cousin! Well, my other highlight was the visit to Andy Warhol museum in his ancestral village in Slovakia. Well, thank you for the chance to experience it all too!

Andriy helped organize and lead an amazing heritage trip for my parents and me as we searched for anything we could find on their grandparents, who left Eastern Europe over a century ago.

Using his expertise, hard work, language/translation skills, extensive professional network, and passion for what he does, Andriy helped us identify places our family lived using archival research, learn an incredible amount about the way they lived, and even meet and interview numerous people who may have known some of our relatives, and with whom we shared unforgettable moments.

The whole trip was a unique experience for which my family is grateful, and we highly recommend Andriy’s services.

After taking a Viking Cruise from Odessa to Kiev along the Dneiper River we thought we had seen all that Ukraine and Central Europe had to offer. But then we met Andriy Dorosh of Dorosh Heritage Tours and our unique experiences really began!
Andriy and I communicated for about a year before we arrived in Ukraine. His individualized itinerary to take my husband and I back to the villages of our grandparents and my father took a great deal of planning on his part as it encompassed Western Ukraine, Eastern Slovakia, and Southern Poland. Many of the areas we visited were remote where English was limited and he was able to communicate in all the languages - we would have been lost without him!
He additionally introduced us to unique cultural experiences and regional cuisine which we may have been hesitant to try on our own (beef tongue is delicious and Slivovitz quite tasty!) We learned so much history of the areas from him, and spent many hours talking about everything as we travelled through the countryside.
Andriy is one special young man whom we have come to think of as a son. He is so kind and considerate and went far and above to attend to our comfort and well-being. His attention to detail made our trip seamless, relaxing, and most of all made us feel that we were being welcomed “back home.” I highly recommend his services without reservation. I hope I can return again.

Eight of us travelled in a comfortable, new minibus around Ukraine for 26 days from Kyiv to Lviv in August -September 2019. The sun shone and the sunflowers filled the fields. What a memorable holiday! In Kyiv we walked beside the Dnipro River, saw some magnificent churches, the catacombs and parks. We ambled down some boulevards and ate delicious Ukrainian food like Mama used to make. Sometimes even pizza when we wanted a quick lunch! Watched the Independence Day march and mingled with the happy crowds in the Maidan. We travelled to Odessa, Vinnytsia, Kamyanets Podilskyi, Kolomyia with the big pysanka, Karpaty villages, Ivano Frankivsk and then, the beautiful city of Lviv. Everywhere the greenness of the country will surprise you. Saw an opera, visited a school, shopped at malls for modern fashions as well as in village markets where we found some Ukrainian crafts at bargain prices! The hotels were excellent and air-conditioned. All the comforts of home. The guides spoke English as well as Ukrainian! They were very informative and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had a lot of laughs with them and the drivers were very helpful with our luggage. If I can I will go again. Thank you Dorosh Heritage Tours!!
