The New Born monument is the symbol of independence of Kosovo and it was built in 2008. Every year for the 17th February (independence day of Kosovo) they change its design. It can be seen just passing by, it's a nice place for pics, as you'll see mostly everyone is there for that reason.

I wouldn't call this a monument, exactly...More like a sign. Still, it's a pretty cool sign with lots of local graffiti.

What at first seems to be an overrated concrete klutz has become quite a favorite port-of-call. On my first visit to Pristina the letters were painted over with the flags of all nations who recognised Kosovo as a sovereign state...one year later there were clouds stitched together with barbed wire...followed by graffiti...and now re-arranged: some of the letters toppled over,... I guess some people made pranks on the monument now it shows only E BORN not new born, they put the N and W letters down. I dont know why its a must see but its not even pretty or exciting

Walked to NEWBORN in Pristina. These large steel letters celebrate Kosovo independence. They sit roadside near the Sports Centre and are quite unique. Well worth a look.

The monument has had a slight artistic change from the original saying "Newborn" the N and W are laying down and it now reads No Walls on the ground with E Born still standing - cleverly done.

Kosovo is a young country, and I like that they reflect their changing status by changing the painting/design each year. While the one in the photo is yellow, it's currently silver and brick, with the N and W 'knocked down' to protest a wall being built between ethnic groups in the north of the country. It's something interesting to see,... More
