The fortress was such an enchanting sight to me after almost an hour of driving from Plovdiv. It is well preserved and as per my guide can also be a wedding venue. It is worth visiting. One is set to learn more about Bulgarian rich culture and history with such visit.

Beautiful and well preserved piece of bulgarian medieval history. Named after Ivan Asen II, tsar of Bulgaria, who expand the fortification and build a church there. The view from the top of the fortress is simply amazing - you should see it yourself! Bring а comfortable pair of shoes.

We visited it at night and it was one of the most spectacularly decorated places with beautiful green lights.

Located on a high rocky edge of the left bank of the Asenitsa river, the fortress is one of the most interesting and oldest monument from the cultural history of the City of Asenovgrad. Its a really stuning place, worth a visit. Big part of the fortress is now gone and destroyed and does not make it less beautiful! A... More

At this place you can see from outside a very well preserved medieval church. Here I mostly enjoyed the fantastic view.

Near Plovdiv, this is a wonderful small fortress to visit. Although they call it a fortress it is also Bachkovo Monastary. The drive there is beautiful. There are a lot of stairs. We visited in the winter and the stairs where not shoveled but we made it to the top ...carefully. Worth a visit if you are near Plovdiv.

I was on a buisness trip to Bulgaria - Plovdiv and my colleagues took me to this fortress which is just a short drive away. I was simply in awe of the atmosphere.Recommended.
