I felt little sad as our guide told me about the the palace which is not open to public ever since revolution of 1952. It was being painted and polished . What for? Like any other country they can attract lot of tourists who want to see palaces from inside . Guide told that city wants it to be opened or else Alex has limited attractions.

Tour guide brought me here ... but really, just a fancy building / photo op.

Not much else to see or do - can't go inside.

Interestingly, there are about 3 hotels on the grounds ..... with some more being built ... guess that is a good way to share the grounds and make it pay !

The land that this is situated on is filled with lots of greenery. You do not feel like you are in Egypt. There are many different areas to go in, including great places to eat, hotels, a children's playground, and many areas where you can just sit and enjoy the view. Located on the waterfront, it also has a walkway next to the sea, where you can view the shoreline of Alexandria. Absolutely beautiful around sunset! Not to mention the actual palace, itself... all I can say is "Wow!"

Amazing building and more amazing gardens. Some of the info here is incorrect. After The King was kicked out of Egyptian 1952 by Nasser , they turned the main building into a museum to show the Egyptian people how rich and corrupt the King was while his people were poor. I remember being there in 1959 to 1964 , as we lived in Alexandria. They showed off his stamp collection , coin collection etc etc. In late 60s and 1970 they used it to run concerts by Egyptian rock bands "Black Coats" and "le petit chat". As for the 365 wives, not quite correct. Farouk was a Womanizer and had a separate smaller building for his lady friends which is open today as a hotel. Farouk was also a kleptomaniac. He drove around Alexandsria in a red convertable and no one else was allowed a red car as he wanted people to know it was him. Then Sadat closed it down in the 70s as he believed it was disrespectful. After Sadat came Mubarak who used it as a guest house for himself and diplomats. The main building has been closed the past 20 years and just sitting there gathering dust. The grounds have alwasy been open to the public. I have an old video from 1959 running around as a 4 year old in the balcony. Good old days. Long gone

We just admired the palace from the street. It is located at Montaza garden.

The story behind:
King Farouk ruled Egypt from 1936 until the revolution that brought Gamal Abdel Nasser to power in 1952. The King, of course, was intended to be like his counterparts in countries such as Iraq and Jordan, where royal families installed after the withdrawal of British colonial administration would help to rule the countries according to Arab and Islamic tradition, while still providing support to Western policy in the region.

The King, obviously, had a home in Egypt’s second-largest city.

Today, that home is still part of government property, but the surrounding park can be visited for a small fee, and tourists are permitted to get fairly close to the palace in order to take pictures.

The palace is typically gaudy, done in a fake Rococo style that, perhaps, emphasizes the King’s dreams of Venetian grandeur, built on the mercantile base of the city. This is most evident in the F’s built into the gates and façade of the structure. You can get a fairly good view of the building from the various parts of the park, but don’t try to get too close, otherwise you will be warned away by the guards.

This place has always been closed. It is a symbol of Alexandria, but nobody can visit it. The Palace is inside Montazah gardens, the most beautiful place in Alexandria and a must see for all tourists.

The place is pretty but the real gem is the grounds. Some beautiful views of the ocean from the grounds of the palace. We visited the harbor and walked around. The bridge is very pretty. Lots of good photo opportunities.

The palace of King Farouk we saw it only from the outside! A very large building with very nice colors! The gardens of the palace made us impression! Along the road there are palm trees that are white in the trunk!

A beautiful palace overlooking the Mediterrarean Sea. Entry to the palace is not allowed for visitors. Spent around half an hour admiring the sea.
