The pagoda, also known as the Kyauksein Pagoda, is said to have been built using 10 million kg of jade and is reputed to the be the world's first jade pagoda. It is absolutely absorbing to be surrounded by so much jade and numerous Buddhas. At night it is very beautifully lit. I went there close to sunset so the place was really pretty.

This jade pagoda complex need at leat 2hours for completion. It's best to visit at the evening when temp. Cools down, marble floor is cool enough for barefeet. The temple has 4 pavillions with white jade buddha images to pay respect and there is a high pole of Karawak bird . There are many interesting places around the pagoda: jade cave with hand prints on jade rock and white jade Naga sculpture. Religious puzzle paintings and etc. on full moon of February/March, there is a small fair , like county fair around the pagoda.

Jade Pagoda, Kyaukse
Werawsana Pagoda, located in Mandalay region is entirely built from jade, one of Myanmar’s semi-precious stones. “Werawsana” means it was built for all peoples of Myanmar and all peoples of the world who worship and paid homage to it.Pretty cool, the entire structure is made of jade rather than gold .it is the only one in the entire country so it's pretty unique too.

Knowledge is wisdom .

This is a very well maintained and beautiful pagoda. It is quite a way from Mandalay and could be visited on the way to the Mandalay airport.

So much jade, so much talent. Free! Not much English, no other languages for translation but art does not require this anyway, right? Worth the visit...

This is a newly build pagoda. The surrounding area is still coming up. Jade one of the most precious stone available in Myanmar. The coolness of jade can be felt on a scorching sunny hot day all the jade blocks on the pagoda and on the floor of the pagoda remain very cold . where as the marble slabs in the approach of the pagoda may cause blisters on bare feet. The stone carvings are marvelous. A must visit destination in Mandalay

I remember having read the book Land of Jade and how Jade is mined in Myanmar and how it has become a very valuable commodity but I never thought a massive Pagoda will be there made entirely of Jade. When as a part of conducted tour we were there to see it, it was astonishing how so much of wealth was used to build it. The Pagoda is a recent one in a city which has so famous and heritage Pagodas already.
Going around this Pagoda was an experience. Our host even showed how the purity of jade is measured by its shine and transparency of light through it. The entire complex, being new is neat and clean and beautiful. As it is away from city, it is less crowded. One pleasant surprise we had when we were served tasty vegetarian Indian snacks in its conference Hall after having been shown around. The visit we will always remember for its beauty and different experience altogether. As it is away from city and not on regular tourist circuit it can be seen on way to or from Airport.
A lovely place overall.

Very touristy, but quite impressive. Don't buy from the vendors without some good bargaining! (Otherwise, you'll pay stupid money!)

Completed in 2016 and promoted as the world's first pagoda entirely made of jade. After having seen so many Buddha sculptures in gold, brass, or gilded wood indeed a different version of the man. The pagoda also known as Werawsana makes a rather newish impression. I liked the four or five Buddha sculptures at the foot of the stupa. The structure itself is perhaps less esthetic.

A jade market hall and a big concrete foodcourt is under construction on what now is still a dusty unattractive plain. It is clearly developed as a tourist hot spot with the jade industry backing it all.

The pagoda is within cycling range from downtown Mandalay: 20 km south from the clocktower, if you follow the Irrawaddy river bank. Write the name of the pagoda in Burmese script on a piece of paper and show it to people. They know where it is and will help you find it.
