I did the full day course in early October 2016 with 3 other people and it was great. The chef spoke good English and the trip to the market was really fun. Note: if you're not used to Laotian / Cambodian markets it can be a bit overwhelming. In class we were shown how to make all the dishes, made... More

The 2 hour course is very basic but you do get to watch the two chefs cook and then get on with your own cooking. There is minimal supervision of the cooking as the instructor chefs were chatting and washing up rather than walking around offering support and advice. A sort of cook book is provided. The suggestions for substitutions... More

We signed up for this cooking class with no expectations, but were very disappointed. Dishes were rushed and very little help was provided. The Laotian tofu they use is disgusting and they don't tell you how to cook it. The chefs were OK and did help slightly but it was very much a case of following the recipe in the... More

I was looking into cooking classes in Luang Prabang. Many of the classes were several hours. Tamnak Cooking class was 2 hours and available. There were two instructors who made 5 or 6 dishes while we watched. After they were finished, we tasted each dish and decided which two we wanted to make on our own. The ingredients were already... My 9 year old daughter and I attended the evening class and being the low season we were the only ones in the class. It was terrific as we able to make all 6 dishes and then feast on them afterwards. It was such a great experience, the food was amazing and we will certainly be replicating them when we... More

Did the all day course in a group of 6. The group itself made the course into not a bad day out as the instructor was very quiet and remained in the background as much as possible. There were no formalities; introduction / overview of what we'd be doing. The tour of the market was tightening quick and there was... More

If I could, I would give zero stars because even the phrase "horrible" doesn't cover our "cooking class" experience. We were told we would be making two dishes (for which 160.000 kip is already waaay overpriced) but four dishes would be made in advance so that we could choose the one we liked best. The "chef" was in such a... More

Excellent day learning to cook Lao food. We checked out the various cooking schools and chose to learn at Tamnak, they also have a superb restaurant, and because you are given two recipe books to take home with you ( I bought lots of ingredients today in our local shops here in HK to try out more). We arrived and were... More

Spontaniously I booked the day course the evening before after the dinner in the restaurant which was amazing. We were just three guests and two chefs. One of them could barely speak english the other one was less good in giving cooking tipps. But together they made a good team and could help us. The market trip was interesting. I... More

I had initially tried to book a lesson at Tamarind, but it was booked up for several days. Tamnak Lao had mixed reviews on Trip Advisor, but I decided to go for it. I had a great experience. We spent a good amount of time at the market, with Phia showing us all of the ingredients and products at the... More
