I heard its a historical place of Jeddah and it Is. Its very Saudi but you won't meet a lot of Saudi there, though. 90%percent of the people around shopping working eating out are foreigners and expatriates. Its a one stop shopping from the lowest to the expensive brands.

Balad is associated with Jeddah city hstory, nice opportunity to see old Jeddah. But, over the years, it has seen many renovations, clean-ups etc. One can see traditional old houses and shops iconic to Jeddah. Heaven for expat laborers for vacation-time shopping like dry fruits, clothes, blankets etc..

The historical section of Jeddah. A lot of it is being renovated and cleaned up. It's a work in progress, but it's still a interesting day/night out. Bring your GPS since the backstreets can be a little tricky to navigate!

Had a great time walking through the market stalls - gold and silver jewelry, perfumes, pashmina and other shawls, markets with dates and spices! Everyone very friendly. And we loved the architecture - ornately carved decorative balconies and doors and windows, old mosques. Well worth it.

Big night market that seems to be spread out all over the old area of Balad. There are gold markets, spice markets, fruit and veg markets, meat markets and the list goes on. Well worth a visit but its fairly basic and mostly outdoor.
