Top ways to experience Dubai Water Canal
The area
Neighbourhood: Jumeirah
Years ago, before the skyscrapers, before the 12-lane highway, there was only Jumeirah. In fact, when the UAE was formed, its rulers signed the agreement in Union House, at the very start of Jumeirah Beach Road. Often called “The Beverly Hills” of Dubai, a drive down Beach Road reveals one enormous, lavish villa after another. Originally residential-only neighbourhoods, they are now also home to an array of cafes, smart boutiques, and art galleries. Home to one of Dubai’s few public beaches, this recently renovated area includes a new boardwalk, running and walking track, with changing facilities and cafes along the way. Another landmark, Jumeirah Mosque, is the only mosque in Dubai that can be entered by non-Muslims. As part of the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, the mosque hosts regular tours and talks about Islam, as part of an “Open Doors, Open Minds” program. A wonderful way to understand more about the UAE and Islam.

There is always other people biking, walking or running, so the environment is nice. You can also get a nice view of the Downtown are from the crossing bridges. It is a perfect biking or running route between the Downtown and Jumeirah as it’s around 6 km away. There are even water stations to fill up your water bottle. You can do some sports without having to worry about the traffic. There are also multiple Careem bike stations for those that want to rent an electric bike and take a quick trip.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten June 12, 2023
- jordanellie41Longridge, United Kingdom1,031 contributionsNice sight if unspectacularThe water canal is a calming place where you can stroll along its bank at your leisure. There’s quite a few benches on the walkway allowing you to stop and chill out. We purposely went there to see the colour waterfall that cascades down off of the bridge into the canal. There are lots of coloured lights on the side of the bridge that give the illusion the water is coloured when flowing. Unfortunately it only changed to purple whilst we were there, but pictures I’ve seen online show multiple colours. It was a nice trip out but there’s many better things to do with your timeVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 19, 2023

Perfect place whether you're biking, walking, or running, you'll love the vibrant atmosphere with people engaging in various activities. The crossing bridges offer stunning views of the Downtown area, and the 6 km route between Downtown and Jumeirah is ideal for biking or running. Water stations available too the best part is, you can engage in sports without worrying about traffic, making it a safe and convenient choice. Plus, there are Careem bike stations for those looking to rent an electric bike and enjoy a quick trip along the canal!

This is a beautiful area of Dubai.
The canal goes through Business Bay down to the sea at Jumeira and links into the natural Dubai Creek at the other end.
There are some phenomenal buildings lining the canal and impressive bridges over the water. There is also a waterfall next to the JW Marriott hotel.
It is a great place to walk, run, cycle (there are bike paths on either side) or sit in one of the many restaurants and cafes to take in the world. It is also lovely to enjoy a cruise on the water.

We were staying in Business Bay near the canal. We frequently used the available rentable e-bicycles and scooters through the canal to go to Jumeirah Beach. Took about 15 minutes. Great way to get to the beach!

Inaugurated in 2016, this is again a new development to connect Business Bay and the Persian Gulf. It is pretty wide for a canal (80 to 120m) and the bridges are high up (8m) in order to enable even the largest and most luxurious yachts to pass. I liked the fact there are pedestrian and cycle lanes along the canal. Hope they will add more trees providing shade.

The Dubai Water Canal offers a great way to see the city on foot, bike scooter or boat.
There are wide walkways on either side which now include bicycle tracks linking up downtown Dubai to Jumeirah and the beach.
There are stunning views of the towers of Business Bay and the Downtown Dubai towers and plenty of food and beverage options along the way where you can stop to refresh.

You either bring some food yourself, or use nearby cafés - but they are kind of expensive
