Ok experience. Nothing spectacular about it. Old boat across a creek. Was ok for the experience.
Now the Souks! Had they left us alone we would have gone into many if the shops and had a browse and bought things but the pestering and calling us “pinky” and “pinky chink” we are white Australian lol. Was off putting. I didn’t feel safe going into the little shops. They loose so much custom by pestering,
Also having no Wifi we rely on free wifi in malls / hotel so getting an Uber afterwards was not easy. We found ourselves wandering along the roads to find a hotspot. Which took about 30 mins.

The Abra is the traditional mode of transport in the region and is still used by locals for public transportation. However, for a tourist, it is a memorable experience and provides beautiful views along Dubai Creek. Unlike most of the modern city of Dubai, riding an Abra across the Dubai Creek is like stepping back in time and experiencing the Dubai of old. The cost is 1 AED, cash only. The Deira Old Souk Station is near the Old Souk and from here you can cross to Bur Dubai and explore the historic Al Fahidi Neighborhood, Al Fahidi Fort and Dubai Museum and Al Seef shopping and dining development which is a more refined experience compared to the seedy Souk area.

The boardwalk is a very nice area to have a nice walk in the evening and enjoy the creek breeze. There are coffee houses and lights.

PROS
* This station is easier to find than the one on the other driver of the creek
* This is an experience- one of the classic activities to do in Dubai, as we travel like a native resident
* From here, we can use the famous and efficient abra boats, which are a convenient and frequent way to travel between Bur Dubai and Deira
* At this station, boats are departing every three to five minutes- almost no waiting
* See the Old Dubai and Deira skylines on both sides of the creek
* Experience the wide open waters of Dubai Creek
* The cost is one dirham, which is 30-35 US cents
CONS
* Not easy to find parking better either
* This abra station is immediately adjacent to the souks, and these neighborhoods and surrounding areas are very authentic and therefore are less clean and less esthetic than modern Dubai
“ I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… because I wanted to at least visit the souks once, and to arrive there via the abra boat.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Yes- the abra crossing from this station is definitely worth one dirham.
ADVICES
Yes- for sure do it, and please look at my “helpful” photos.

There has been a ferry between the old souk in Deira and Bur Dubai, the historic nucleus of Dubai, for ages. The waterbus between the two stations is a convenient service. It is used mainly by locals who work in the Dubai area and costs 1 dirham one way. Embarking and disembarking is a routine and is easy to blend into as a foreigner. In a way most people in Dubai are foreigners. So no haggling about a price like in Egypt or elsewhere in the Arab world.
When in Dubai I use the Deira station regularly as part of a daily walk along Al Seef to Infinity bridge and the Deira souk area and returning by waterbus (1 and a half hour).

This is a simple station for Abra boats, crossing the small creek in northern Dubai.
Price of a crossing is a laughable 1AED (roughly 25 cents).

So we took a cab to burdubai but while returning a co-tourist nudged us towards the ferry. It was amazing experience, crossing the creek during sunset with full local flavour riding alongside us.

So, we weren't very educated in the water taxi system or abras. We started out at another dock and paid 2 dirhams for a ride across the creek to Al Fahidi. The only taxi we saw were newer and faster and were easier to get in and out. This was part of the public transportation system. We came back across the creek to this station and saw all kind of boats especially the ABC boats which were only 1 Durham and looked more authentic.

When you visit this area of Dubai taking a boat ride across the river is a must. This section of waterway is the main ferry point from one side of the river to the other. On the main side are the Gold & Spice souks. On the other side are tourist restaurants along the river. Food is good. You will also find the Dubai Museum and other historical points of interest. It costs 1 Dirham per person which is almost FREE.

We went there at around 5PM, walked around and waited for the sun to set.
At around 7.30PM we hired an Abra (traditional boat made of wood) for a 30 minute tour (AED 60). There were only the 4 of us. We drove around on the Creek and he then dropped us off on the side where the Souqs are.
To cross the creek it costs AED 1 only!
Definitely happy, that we didn't book a tour!

If you mean crossing the creek on one of the passenger boats, I say yes. It is safe because stepping on and off the boat is easy without any jumping or climbing involved. Once on board you can sit down. The ride is not bumpy either.

Are there small burg el arab and burg el khalifa souvenirs ? If so how much?

Hi There, Unquestionably you can find a variety of burj al arab/ burj Khalifah souveneirs. From perfume bottles, trinkets, paintings, shirts etc ranges in price and do be prepared to haggle. The spice and fabric souk are my preference. But you will not find higher quality gold than the Deira gold souk.
A bit difficult to give a price-everything is negotiable. If you want to spend 10dir rather than 45+ go to Deira.

Travelling with kids with bulky luggages.
Will be driving a rented car from Dubai airport - heading straight to Deira Old Souk Abra Station, before driving to Abu Dhabi on the same day.
The question is - where is the nearest, safest, most affordable car park?

Oh, and, honestly ...safety is your least consideration. The congestion will be considerable .
