In the historic district, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai, is an affordable 10-minute traditonal wooden boat ride -- really a taxi. Take the abra from the Bastakiya side, look around the textile souk and the art galleries, and end in the gold souk. Used by 15-20 million passengers each year, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai is a memorable cruise in the water.

Take a boat/dhow cruise on the creek. Awesome views. Keep your camera ready along with a bottle of water as its really hot and sunny. We got the creek dhow cruise along the abra docks via the Big Bus Tour.

The old boats that took across the creek to the spice and gold souk were an experience for sure! I felt like we were mixing with locals and tourists. They offer a good perspective.

1AED and you can take some nice shot! there are two places for departure, at the entrance of the souq and in the middle. Once you arrived there's a good guy making glass with colourful sand inside! I bought one of them for 50AED with my name! very nice memory!

From 1997 the fare charged on these boats to cross over from Bur Dubai to Deira has been AED1 but everything else has changed. The skyline along the bank of this creek , the walk along the souk both on the Deira side and the Bur Dubai side is changing day after day......but friendly greeting of the boat man and... More

If you want to experience something unique in Dubai, something traditional, other than the new and modern building and shopping malls.I strongly recommend you take time to do a Abra trip (Cost 1 AED!!!!) crossing the creek. This is traditional way to connect both sides of Dubai (Old and New) which is called Deira (Old Dubai) and New (Bur-Dubai). On... More

Short distance. Basically crossing the creek using abra in about 5 min time. If you happen to pass by then can give it a try.

Staying in The Creek

Neighbourhood Profile
The Creek
The smell of frankincense hangs thick and heavy in the air, waves lap gently at jetties, and market traders call to passing tourists. The creek, originally the place where pearl boats docked and left on missions to uncover jewels from the deep, is where the city really began. The Al Fahidi District on the Creekside is one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai, easily recognizable with its iconic wind towers, the original air conditioning. Home to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Dubai Museum, the old buildings also house a range of cafes, shops and art galleries. Often called “the real Dubai,” this is a wonderful place to lose yourself before catching an abra across the creek to the spice souk, where your senses will be overwhelmed with tastes, smells, and sounds.
