Palm Jumeirah is the first of the three Palm Islands and for this reason is perhaps the most famous. There's no need to paint his uniqueness, and that's how it's known. Meanwhile, Palm Jumeirah appeared to be more efficient from the top of the plane's window than directly from the island. Maybe it just seemed...

In principle, I liked the place. A nice promenade where you can walk and take interesting photos (much more beautiful in the evening). Nothing unusual, but I recommend visiting at least once.
I liked the tram to the monorail and the monorail itself much more. I heard from friends that the view of Palma from above is much more interesting. Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit the observation deck.

One of the engineering and architectural feats of Dubai, Palm Jumeirah should at least be visited. The artificial island in form of a giant palm tree features top end residences, luxury hotels, the giant Atlantis hotel and the brand new ultra luxury Atlantis The Royal. There is a monorail with four stops, a very convenient means to get around, and the day pass is not expensive. A water park and aquarium caters for families with kids.

This place is....huge and so amazing, beautuful. Really, when you see it on photos, you have no idea how big this is. I thought it is for tourists only, but actally it is residential area. I would not mind to have a house there. ;) Atlantis hotel is fantastic to see and there is one more, that I do not know the name. It is newer and great architecture. We walked 40 minutes to see it from close.

I have always been fascinated with Atlantis in its original and first location in Nassau, Bahamas, from the time I have read about that in a novel, a Jeffery Archer one if I remember correctly.
For over two decades, Atlantis has been exuding Bahamian culture, serving as an architectural marvel and custodian of marine life, and its landmark pink architecture that defines luxury, hospitality, and entertainment in the Caribbean and around the world.
The closest we can get, for now, is the Atlants's second location in the uber luxurious Dubai, located in the farthest edge of The Palm, which in itself in an icon. No, we weren't staying in the Atlantis, but I wish in the future. We did manage to take a little detour from our Dubai City Tour to take the scenic route in the metro line that travels from one end of The Palm to the other end where the Atlantis is located. The journey through the central frond of The Palm, itself is magical, with about a few stops and a view of the buzzling mini city with private beaches and signature homes. The last stop is where I got a glimpse of the most anticipated view of Atlantis, it was nothing less than magical. I just couldn't stop wondering how beautiful the pink architecture looks, very much at ease in Dubai's cultural landscape in the middle of the sea.
Now my trip back to Dubai is reconfirmed with this beautiful space where I would want to stay at least for a day [and afford it] and enjoy the access to the Aquaventure Dubai and the Lost Chambers aquarium.

We were keen to visit to check out the restaurants at the hotel before booking and to get an idea of the ambience.
What a disaster. Despite the website shouting about how many things there are to do on a day trip to The Atlantis, the security guards were absolutely set on restricting access to visitors.
So you can’t rock up to see what it’s like before you part with your hard- earned cash. And you’re very much made to feel like second class citizens.
We ended up reluctantly booking to dine at Heston’s latest restaurant- at The Atlantis Royal. And very nearly left as the place is so unwelcoming if you’re not a hotel guest. But eventually we chose to go as there was a really good deal on.
PLeased we did as the restaurant was actually spot on.
But don’t come to The Atlantis unless you are pre booked. As they’re not the friendliest.

We stayed on the Palm during a recent visit and it is an absolute engineering marvel - a fantastic destination which is worth a visit to understand the sheer scale of things (best appreciated by an aerial view)
We were surprised however at how poorly connected it is via public transport. From where we were staying on the Palm, the public transport option involved a not inconsiderable walk to the monorail, which connects with a tram, which then connects with the main metro line. It really was a faff and so we chose either to get a taxi straight to downtown or take a taxi to the nearest metro station which wasn't particularly close.
We ended up spending a fortune on taxis because of this - given how good the general infrastructure is in Dubai we were surprised at just how isolated one of its main attractions, was.

The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai is an artificial reef in the shape of a large palm tree set in a lagoon that extends into the Gulf. Visible from space, it is the first of several such developments created by dredging sand from the sea and reinforcing it with quarried rocks. The other artificial reefs are still under construction. When all are completed Dubai’s shoreline will have increased by 520km.
Work started on the Palm in 2001 and took about 8 years to complete. It was created primarily for profit through real estate sales. Today the Palm fronds support 5,000 luxury houses and a resident population of more than 10,000, many of whom are celebrities. The trunk of the Palm and surrounding crescent shaped breakwater supports luxury 28 hotels, dominated by the Atlantis Hotel a huge brick coloured super luxury hotel at the top of the Palm. It is 23 floors high and contains more than 1,500 rooms.
One access to the Atlantis is by monorail along a 5.4 km track from Gateway Towers station on the Metro line, at the entrance to the Palm. The monorail opened in 2009 and there are plans to extend it further inland. Atlantis is also linked by road to the mainland although from the road it was impossible for us to obtain a view of the Palm itself. This is best done from the air, and there are helicopter tours available. But we were able to take photographs of the façade of the Atlantis.
The entire spectacular project has not been without its problems. It overran by about 2 years due to the complexity of construction. The developer, to offset increased costs, decided to increase the number of houses which meant smaller plots, closer neighbours and less privacy. This upset many of those who had bought the houses before construction had started. The crescent shaped breakwater was originally designed to be continuous, but this created stagnant seawater, unacceptable smells and a lack of marine life, so breaks in the breakwater were made to allow the natural tidal flow to oxygenate the water within the lagoon and to encourage marine life. In 2009 it was reported that, according to NASA’s satellites, the Palm was sinking at about 5mm per year but the developer has rejected this, citing the lack of accuracy of NASA’s satellites.

We are looking to book a private villa and was wondering if we are allowed to buy alcohol to consume in our private villa?
Written May 13, 2019
You cannot buy alcohol in grocery stores and need to have a license to buy from the specialist retailers.
As a tourist you can buy alcohol to consume at licensed restaurants and hotels.
If you hire a villa make sure all members of your party buy their duty free allocation on the way in.

Mil Gracias

Sorry - but for me, THE PALM is only boring. :-( So I do not know any hotels there... I prefer to be near to the "Creek". ;-)

Where can we access the "I Love UAE" sign? I want to take a picture but where on the Palm Juremiah is it?
Written August 27, 2017
Honestly, I don't know where on the palm. I didn't see it on the part where we went. Ask your guide to help you with that.

It looks like it's on the boardwalk at the top of the palm but not sure exactly where. I'd head to the end where the Atlantis hotel is and scout both ways. bet it's near there. I just pinged my mate who lives on the palm and he didn't know! Good luck!

Hi. What's a good all inclusive with a beach and within reach of visit to The Kalif please?
Written June 3, 2017
There is no such option to the best of my knowledge. If you are looking for a good option with beach settings, try the main Dubai beach with a hotel overlooking it.
