Really? An attraction? Really? It's a law quadrangle. It's a rectangle of land bordered by some very, very nice old university buildings. As law quadrangles go, I'd give it 5 out of 5. As attractions go, I'd give it 0 out of 5. As a "Thing To Do", it's a 1 out of 5, at best.

Strolling through UofM's Law Quad, you often see couples taking engagement or wedding photos, or parents with photographers capturing their seniors final moments of high school. This place is historic and beautiful all in one. It is a must-see if visiting Ann Arbor!

The beauty of the law quad is diminished by a gaudy, huge white flag pole. Students and even visitors to the law school do not need to be reminded that they are standing in the US -- the flag implies that national loyalty supersedes academic inquiry, which diminishes the integrity of the law school.

The law building is pretty fantastic. It reminded me of Oxford. It is old looking and screams prestige. This is the best part of the campus.

The Law Quad is one of my favorite "tour of Ann Arbor" destinations for visitors from out of town. The Law Quad "reading room" has been modernized since I was a student, and used to study here. If you notice the stained glass windows, there are representative school seals from educational institutions around the world. You can ask for a guide to the windows from the reference desk at the side, in the center of the room to seek out a particular institution. During quieter times of the year (vacations, summer), you are sometimes able to go into the Underground Smith Addition for a brief tour (you must request a pass, as it is typically limited to U-M Law School students, faculty, alumni and attorneys from Michigan or elsewhere).

My teenage daughter was taking tour of UM as possible university choice. As part of the tour we went in law library to see the architecture. The ceiling was spectacular. The outside of the buildings were beautiful. If in area you must stop. Unfortunately you cannot enter but you can see outside.

Without question Ann Arbor (A2) is one of the most beautiful cities in the US (at least 10 months of the year) - in part due to the beauty of nature, the plethora of parks and trails and without question the majesty of the University of Michigan (a school that seems to spare no pennies when building and rebuilding its renowned campus). But yet amongst the eclectic and small cosmopolitan feels of the city there is one place that stands out from the rest - the Law Quad. The area is well kept like the entire campus but provides a nature sanctuary inside the space (bracketed by amazing architecture (not the least of which is the law library - very little in the US compares - it reveals the likes of Oxford and theoretically Hogwarts). Truth - I did not attend UM Law School but I did attend the B-School across Tappan Ave and lived in awe of the Law Quad. It is a fact that everyone I’ve “hosted” and presented UM to has been taken to the Law Quad as the high point of the visit. If you haven’t been - you must go. If you’ve been - go again. Disclaimer - it’s hard to get inside the Law Library if not a student or alum but it’s amazing (the USA’s small slide of All Souls College and far better than anything seen in the Ivy League (Yale has Trover (Very nice for sure) but in the ghetto - nice but limited and not surrounded by Ann Arbor; nothing at Harvard (give me break); some of Princeton but not outdated/unmaintained and not in Jersey; UPenn and Columbia are great but all concrete; Dartmouth is 300 miles from life; and Cornell meh. And note - if your Bf/Gf, friend, loved one, friends neighbors brother love Harry P - then this a must see.

Unlike the Ugli which is where people go to pretend to study and the Hatcher graduate library which can get seriously quiet and spooky later at night (sometimes attracting folks like the Unabomber who was a grad student at Michigan), the Law Library offers a good balance of being able to see other people around and a general 'no loud noises' rule to maintain a good productive vibe.

The Law Quadrangle is a beautiful garden courtyard nestled in the middle of Ann Arbor - a quiet place to walk and reflect. The architecture takes you back in time. You will no doubt enjoy spending time examining the detail of the walls and arches made of a pleasing selection of granite blocks.

As an Alum of the UM Law School I took a friend on a tour of the Law Quad. Her Nephew from California will attend UM Law school in the fall of 2018. Needless to say she was most impress with the facilities and the campus.
