This is the most popular spot to find local arts and crafts. You need a local with you to negotiate prices. Never accept the opening price.

The stall holders are predictably and pleasantly persistent in welcoming you and trying to tempt you into their shop. The artisanal works on offer range from paintings to masks to trinkets. The quality varies but it is a relatively calm and spacious environment in which...More

Charming collection of stalls and small shops selling souvenirs, clothing and art. The shop owners are easy-going and willing to bargain over a price. Most of the owners are multi-lingual and eager to make a sale. As a veteran of much larger souvenir markets such...More

The same 'tipical' artisanal objets d'art as found in other westafrican towns and cities. Everyone wants to get you into your shop and you keep trying to walk away. Of course we ended up buying stuff anyway, so if you still need a souvenir and...More

An interesting variety of crafts and gifts. Mostly locally made. They can be really pushy, but appreciate you bargaining. There's a bar at the entrance with a lovely garden.

If just visiting Cotonou and have some free time this market is worthy of a hour or two of your time. Many of the shops have the same merchandise, but there are a couple that have unique handcrafted items of good quality. This is definitely...More

After leaving the rowdy Marché Dantokpa, I went to the Artisanal Centre. I collect fridge magnets and was hoping to find at reasonable prices, as these are like the cheapest souvenirs in the world. I found the magnets rather expensive, the paintings were also expensive....More

Hot and dusty, with considerable hype from the sellers (although we have suffered worse hassle elsewhere). If there are any hidden gems among all the merchandise offered, we didn't find any to our taste. We felt the items were mostly of mediocre quality. Since we...More
