Lake Angostura is very close to the city... maybe less than 10 miles. However, due to the insane traffic, it could take you up to 1 hr to get there. There are 2 alternate routes: one is the classic highway with the traffic and the second is going via Santivañez which is probably a bit less in traffic but still an hr away. There are several things you could do while at the lake, there are some restaurants right before arriving to the dam on the right-hand side of the road. The biggest one is one called Laguna del Eden with some attractions but I hated the atmosphere and the food was terrible. The other smaller restaurants before arriving at the lake are a little better but I best recommend the restaurants that are at the shore of the lake in the western part of it. To get there you need to turn right before arriving at the lake heading towards Tarata. there is a little bridge on the right of the road. Take that road and head up the hill; once you start descending you will hit several restaurants that serve a fairly good trout or "pejerrey". These places offer boat rides on the lake with varying qualities... none of them are terribly good but they are not very expensive either. If you take the alternate road through Santivañez you will arrive pas the restaurants so you would need to take a left to get to them. Also nearby, there is also the Hotel Hacienda Caluyo where you could spend the day, have lunch or event stay for the night... (better call to find out if they are open). Driving around the lake is quite nice. there is a rock climbing site before arriving to Tarata. Tarata is probably one of the nicest little towns in Cochabamba so don't miss driving by and maybe planning a short visit there. Also, and probably the most interesting place near Tarata is the "Bosque de Algarrobos de Tiataco" which are woods of carob trees. Apparently is one of the biggest and oldest in South America; you can find it in google maps. Again, many different little nice activities which could be considered if you have a spare day in Cochabamba. Best if you have your own transportation... would be difficult by local transportation.

Wouldn't recommend it for western tourists or off season. We took a taxi to get there from cbba for 40 bs (20 bs each) and stopped a trufi on the main road on our way back (4 bs each). It's a nice lake with three or four restaurants. You can rent a boat or jet ski. And chill out. But that was it. I don't think it was worth the effort going there

I come from Minnesota so seeing a lake is not a big deal. It was fun to see the dam and the lake. You can go out on paddle boats or take a tour of the lake in a motorized boat. They also had a jet ski you could rent. The water is brown from the mud in the hills.

I went by bicycle. The traffic is lunatic but the biggest hazard was the air pollution. I couldn't find the place photoed above. All approaches to the lakeside were difficult dirt roads. Not at all the resort I was !read to expect.

However it you could get to the lakeside and find a bar the mountains would form a fine backdrop to the scene. Nice place to read a book?

We visited la Laguna Angostura during the week for lunch and it was quiet and very nice! The food specializes in trucha which is the local fish. Prepared both on the grill and baked. Fish was fresh and delicious. Definitely a must see if you are going for both scenic and dining experience!

There is much to see and do at Laguna Angostura. It's a nice place for a relaxing day. They have a good menu of fish. Very fresh and delicious. Also there is a zip line, hiking trails and lots of places to just relax and spend the day out of the city. Plan on spending a while when you go.

It is located outside the city, more or less half an hour away from car, but you can reach there by taxi or there are some buses that goes there for a minimum wage. The place is clean, the restaurant name is Lago del Eden and it has good fish food, also you have to try the ¨Garapiña¨ traditional beverage. It has small boats to mess around.
It is a place to meet if you visit Cochabamba.
