There was a lot to see here from an original olive press to Early stone cooking items, to pictographs on stone, to mummified remains. I am not big on mummies, so to me that was not a draw. But many people seemed to be extremely interested.

If you are interested in history you should come here. There are shared taxis (colectivos), coloured completely in yellow that say Azapa and they depart from a "parada mixta" at the corner of Patricio Lynch with Chacabuco. The taxi leaves you in front of the museum, the drive costs 1,200 pesos per person, takes 15 minutes. The main attraction at... More

Oldest mummies in the world. Taxi from Arica costs 18,000 pesos including 1 hour wait and return trip. Entrance 2,000 pesos. All in Spanish but incredible to see. Takes an hour to view. Also petroglyphs (stone carvings) and incredible intricate artefacts including fish hooks made from cacti thorns.

This museum is a little bit out of the city, going up to Azapa valley, but the trip and the environment around the museum gives a unique atmosphere. The museum was insightful and entertaining. There is a lot more than what you could expect there with very interesting information and items in the exhibition. Totally worth it.

Great museum! Contains mummies from the oldest civilization in the Americas and probably one of the oldest in the world!

It's very interesting I must admit!! I didn't like the fact that one room was being re-decorated so it was closed. It isn't close to the city but If you do like museums you'll love this one.

Very well built museum, they could add more stuff in English. The grounds are beautiful. Also, the drive from Arica to the museum is quite nice

The museum was recently refurbished and now provides good interpretation and an excellent display for the Chinchorro Mummies which is why you came here, right! A section was closed when we visited but if it is developed to the same standard as the current galleries it will be a good edition. The main galleries contain a wide range of Chinchorro... More

This museum is placed 15 kilometers outside Arica in the middle of nowhere. The surroundings are nice and you can spend 10-15 minutes aprreciating the place. The exhibition consist of the description of how olive oil is produced, a small collection of geoglyphs and a exhibitions of very old mummies. The exhibition is well made and looks very nice, but...
