It may have been because a cruise ship was in town, but this square was alive. Talented buskers, souvenir stalls, food stalls and lots of [ mounted] police presence. If you are walking around you can't miss it anyway, its 'town central'

Very Nice Square with Magellan's statue and impressive buildings surrounding the square, including the Palace of Sara Braun. It’s certainly worth a stroll around the square and also seeing the memorial and statue to Magellan in its center.

Nice park in the center of Punta Arenas. Magellan monument is within the park. Good place to sit and relax while walking around exploring Punta Arenas on foot. Plenty of benches throughout the park. Felt safe (police presence was evident). Food and souvenir vendors abound.

What's to say? It's the plaza where tourists have their photo taken at the foot of a conquered Indian statue. Artesanía (handcrafts) is available at several kiosks. Benches are provided. I have heard folk music performed here by talented groups.
